Plastic plates for semi-formal wedding

Krizzia, on December 14, 2024 at 5:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
Hello, my fiancé and I are thinking of using heavy duty plastic plates instead of using china rental. Our caterer quoted us $600 just for china plates rental, we’re hoping to just use that money in other parts of the wedding like food, music or drinks.
Would it be tacky to use plastic plates/cutlery for a semi-formal wedding? Thank you.

For a cake and punch or pizza reception, no it wouldn't be tacky, but if it's truly semi-formal, then yes it would be.

    Hard disagree.

There is such a thing as luxury plastic plates these days. Remember, presentation is everything. But not everyone has to use china, especially for semi-formal.

    Pizza, anyone?

I think it depends on the type of food that you are serving. If it's food that will require cutting then I wouldn't use plastic.

Again, for a shower or informal reception, this is a great option. However, it's not suitable for cutting steak or chicken with plastic ware (especially deemed semi-formal).

She specified china rental. Working around that rental and remaining semi-formal with more formidable tableware is perfectly doable.

You can definitely find nice plastic. 95% if people won't care. And if they do, you probably don't want their energy at your wedding!
