Planning while in college

Bailey, on June 2, 2022 at 3:28 PM Posted in Planning 2 6
I just got engaged on 5/20/22! I am wanting a fall bohemian themed wedding but I do not graduate till December 2025. My school always starts in August. I’m having trouble with a fall date to fit my school schedule Smiley sad

    First off, congratulations!

My suggestion would be to try to schedule it whenever you'll have a fall break if your school has one. Otherwise, see if you'll be able to schedule your classes so you could have Fridays off during the semester the wedding would be in. That would give you the day before off (if you're planning a Saturday wedding that is). You could always plan to take a honeymoon during your winter or summer break as well. It wouldn't have to be right away if that wouldn't work.

I’ve thought about that but I’m not sure when my fall break would be since it is so far away?

Thanksgiving weekend is a safe bet, or Columbus/Indigenous People's Day. There's also the Jewish holidays if your school closes for those. Edit to add: You could also build a class schedule where you don't have class on, say, Mondays or Fridays -- then have the wedding on a normal weekend. If you specifically choose a holiday weekend, you have to be OK with the fact that a lot of your guests may not come.

I can't remember whether mine was held on a consistent weekend either now that I think about it. You could try reaching out to your school's registrar or admin staff to see if they might know, but they might not have things planned that far out yet either. If you get days off for Columbus/ Indigenous People's Day, that might work.

Another idea would be to take heavier credit loads in other semesters so you could have a lighter load during the semester you'd be getting married. Definitely try to take classes that semester with professors who are more flexible/ understanding as well.

I got married in grad school. I wanted to be married before graduation. So, I choose a holiday weekend, MLK, since I knew I’d be off. Not the best reasoning for a date but it works.
I’d say a holiday break is better than trying to figure out when fall break would be (or any other break you may get).

Are you planning on getting married on a weekday? If so, see if you have a fall break. My college gave a day off once a semester (not a holiday, just an extra day off). You could also talk to your professors to see if they'll be lenient with you around your wedding time.
