Planning before engagement

Before being engaged my husband and I talked about marriage but I didn't actually start looking or planning until it actually happened.

I did this! haha well but i knew it was coming because we bought the rings together, he didn't propose yet. i basically just looked into venues like pricing and options

I did! I even toured a venue before we got engaged! I also started my wedding email. LOL! It might seem crazy but I knew 2022 was going to be booked like crazy so I wanted to start looking at prices. We actually started saving before we got engaged as well. I would also like to note that he knew that I did all of this, I wasn't doing it secretly HAHAHA

Research never hurt anyone. But I would want to be confident that it's coming or I'd feel really hurt. But, yeah Google away! I might not call anyone right now - this season is hectic. But research, vision boards - big yes!

We started planning together before he proposed but realized we couldn’t tell anyone until he actually did lol

The engagement shouldn't be a surprise, just the proposal so there's nothing wrong with it. We knew we wanted to get married this October so we actually booked a few things before he officially proposed. He just wanted to do it properly and he had to wait on the ring

I don't think there's anything wrong with beginning to get an idea of what you would love to have and what your ideal day would feel like so that when you're asked you're all ready to go, but I do think it's important to make sure your (hopefully soon-to-be) fiance likes what your vision is - it's his day too after all!

I guess basically I'm saying don't go too deep down the rabbit hole of dreaming and planning unless you and your partner are on the same page about design styles, or you're prepared to be flexible in your ideas, or you'll just end up doing more work than you need.

We booked our venue 2 months before we got engaged because we wanted a very specific date (our anniversary) the next year... then COVID happened and we postponed by one year and then cancelled in favour of a much smaller wedding

I started doing research! I didnt reach out to any vendors before hand for i formation or anything like that, but I started looking at venues in my area, dresses, and stuff like that; visiting websites, looking on Pinterest, checking pricing.

I remember I was super nervous to show my fiance my wedding daydream pinterest board since it was quite ... pink haha! I don't know why, since he's quite possibly the easiest going man on earth. He liked everything I showed him and told me he'd known almost from when we first started dating that if we ever got married it'd be at least partially pink.

Guilty! We talked about marriage a bunch before we got engaged, and I couldn't help but get a head start on planning. Mainly looking a venue pictures and videos. Also found myself going down the rabbit hole of some fun options for ceremony music (like string duos playing modern music). It's never too soon to figure out what you like!!

Same page. At least for me, knowing (or having a good ideas of) the venue is such a big deal especially now when they are booking up way further out than normal.
