Planning anxiety: to have or not have a wedding planner

As I’m starting to plan by Fall 2022 wedding, I’m starting to get anxiety that it won’t go right. I know that sounds crazy, but I feel like I need a wedding planner to execute my vision. I know tons of people do it without one so, how do you change the wedding space to a reception space when both are being held in the same space and all your guests are there? I feel so lost, it’s one thing to plan on Pinterest and another to plan real life 🤦🏾‍♀️

    Does your venue have a staff that would flip the room? This is something that would typically be asked during the initial venue tour.

    As mentioned above ask about staff that has to flip the room. And if they don’t, I’ve been to plenty of weddings where they flipped the room while we waited. The DJ just told us to stand against the wall, and literally took maybe 5 minutes and we just talked/got drinks while the groomsmen and some other men switched out the tables and chairs.

    The venue staff and rental companies..along with your florist will set up the room how you want. A day of coordinator will make the day run smoothly and get all vendors on the same page.


    The decision to have a planner leading up to that depends if you want someone else to pick your vendors and make all decisions or if you want to make most decisions yourself and pick the vendors you want.

    I asked our venue. The owner takes care of everything. They coordinate all the details. See if your venue has a day of coordinator.

    We got engaged this past New Years Eve. I tried to plan by myself (with family help) for about 6-7 months and then gave up. It’s so hard right now with certain vendors not being open or on modified schedules. We hired a partial planner. Even though it was a TIGHT squeeze with our budget it has been a huge help. I honestly wish I did it sooner.

    My husband and I (well mostly me), planned our wedding without a wedding planner. It's very doable as long as your organized with it. I had a planner that I bought (not a wedding planner, just a new yearly planner) that I put all of our vendor contact information in, as well as the "due dates" for days I wanted certain things for the wedding done by, the dates I wanted to purchase things, appointments from my dress & my husband's tux, and so on.

    As far as changing the room from the ceremony to the reception, I'd look into venues that come with a day of coordinator to help with that. Our venue came with one and she had 3 additional employees to help her the day of our wedding. They took care of everything and my husband and I weren't bothered for anything at our wedding or reception. Now, I did not have my ceremony and reception in the same room; we got married outside on a veranda and our reception was inside one of the ballrooms, but for your transition maybe you could have the cocktail hour outside of the ceremony/reception space while the switch happens. Maybe in an outdoor area or an entry way into the venue that is beautifully decorated or something like that. My backup plan in case of rain was to have my guests seated at their tables in the reception hall and an arch would've been brought in for the ceremony. The only things would've had to be moved after the ceremony was the arch, and our head table would've had to be reset. Luckily it did not rain so we did not have to use the backup plan, but the way my venue coordinator and I planned it just-in-case was beautiful.

    If you're venue has a DOC they can 100% help you with that. They will likely have photos of previous weddings where the couple wanted the same thing Smiley smile

    Def agreeing with what everyone has already stated, also see if ur venue has a cocktail hour. To my understanding that's normally during the time the rooms are flipped. That way ur guest are occupied during the switch.

    It depends i think on your venue too - if your venue doesn't provide you with an event coordinator already, then i'd suggest getting one so that you can be sure everything goes accordingly.

    most of the vendors you'll work with probably know how to do this stuff also but having the central contract person is usually important.
