Planning A Wedding With A $10,000 Budget

Future Mrs. Bivens, on August 23, 2013 at 7:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 38

Hello WW,

I've been on here for a while and I'm kind of stuck on how to start planning for my wedding. I've been engaged for a month now and only have the date and number of guests also the budget (which is the most important). We've decided $10,000 for our budget, July 5th, 2014 for our wedding date, and any where between 120 to 100 guests. Me and my FH would like to have a simple but very beautiful wedding (don't want it seem like we threw something together) I live in South Florida and I've been told WW give great advice and can help me I'm this area. Please does anybody have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!!

You can have a beautiful wedding for $10,000. Since you know your budget and estimated guest count start looking into venues. Seems like the next logical step. Good luck.

I have been looking for a venue but they're exceeding my budget. Do anybody know of any reasonable venues in S. Florida?

Are you dead set on July 5? I was going to say that maybe you can push it back to have more time and money.....that's an option.

Look for vineyards, country clubs, church halls, etc. You don't have to have alcohol or it can just be beer and wine, you can also see if the hall you choose will let you bring your food so that maybe your family can help bring in food that everyone cooks. (my cuz is doing that). Have a Sunday wedding for sure cause most of the time it's cheaper.

I don't know about Florida but I would suggest looking into any public parks. I know many near me (Maryland) have some beautiful old buildings for relatively cheap. I'd also look into community centers.

Aside from the venue, figure our what is most important and what can possibly go. For instance, I'm willing to splurge on photography but don't care about flowers.

We're having our wedding in Cape Coral, SW Florida ( near Ft Myers). We have a vacation house there so it will be a DW, approximately 60-70 people. Ceremony and reception are being held at the marina down the street from us. Not sure what area of Florida your looking in but if I can help you out with any info. let me know. Ft Myers area has lots of great country clubs.

I would say first book your vendor which is the most important! After that, you can look and shop around for deals in every other category!

Museums could be a decent choice. I'm not in S. Fla but going with an atypical venue actually saved us money.

I had a budget of 10,000 and a guest list at 125 so It is definitly possible. What I cut out was thank you gifts for each guest. My thought is Your getting a dinner dessert and a smores bar. Also this isnt about spoiling them its about enjoying friends and family and celebrating the joys of marriage.

Remember to budget every area and if you go over in one area on your budget then you have to cut from another. The venue I wanted was really cheap and that helped allow some room in other areas.

    Good Luck!

Like everyone's already said, you can do a beautiful wedding for 100 - 120 people for $10,000. Just a heads up: you're getting married on what is considered a holiday weekend (Saturday, July 5). Be sure to ask ALL of your vendors if they have a clause that allows them to impose either a holiday budgetary minimum OR a holiday weekend fee (should your budget fail to reach that minimum). For example, florists can require a minimum of a $2,500 budget OR a $250 holiday fee. The reasoning is pretty simple -- they're working on a holiday.

Not everyone does, but be sure to ask.

Hello and congrats on your engagement! I am not FL but my budget is $8,000 with a guest list of 150 and we just booked a country club for my reception. Our venue discounted us a big chuck of change because our wedding is in March. If you are concerned about costs, I would see if you could move your date either up or back. Also, I found a number of hotels are willing to negotiate on the price. Good luck!

Have you checked some of the hotels near the airport? They may have lower rates than hotels in Miami or in Ft. Lauderdale.

You might check community centers and park buildings as I've found they are cheaper and a lot of times, look just as nice.

Renting an empty building or a park and then essentially creating a venue is not usually the most cost effective way to go since you literally need to bring in everything.

A holiday weekend is usually not the cheapest way to go either; look into a few venues and ask if they have 'value dates' or specials during certain times of the year or times of the day.

Consider brunch or a cocktail party with heavy hors d'oeuvres and stations. Think about getting the guest list down even further.

    Here are a few tips

-Opt for a Friday or Sunday wedding

    -Keep the guest list down

-Maybe pick a venue that is all inclusive. That way, you don't have to pay a site fee, catering, cake...

-Limit open bar to beer and wine and maybe a signature drink

Even though I have not tallied up the total, I believedwe are under $10,000. We set our budget for $8,000, but we totaled in the honeymoon and we still under. It can be done. Use every resource you know. I found my hall thru my cousin who is also my caterer. My photographer thru my friend and the photographer gave us a discount. So see it is possible, even my dress, orig 1200, I got it for $700...
