Planning a New Years Eve Wedding

Nicole, on January 22, 2018 at 5:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

Hi! Has anyone here planned or is planning a New Years Eve wedding? Our date is Dec 31, 2019 and I am looking for some advice about anything that will help. Also was it more or less expensive to have it on NYE all together? The date is actually on a Tuesday but it's also a holiday so I wasn't sure what that would mean. What were some issues that you ran into with having an NYE wedding? Anything you'd do different or that I should do?

Any tips/advice helps!

Thanks!

I didn’t have a New Years wedding, but I’m of the belief that if I’m being asked to attend a wedding on a holiday where travel/hotels are more expensive, childcare is more expensive, etc. it should be the best wedding I’ve ever been to. Lots of food(apps, multi-course meal, dessert, and late night snacks), premium open bar, great music it shouldn’t end until after midnight, champagne toast and a countdown at midnight.

Hi there! We are getting married 12/31/18 and can't wait! I think you have to check in with your VIPs and know your crowd in whether or both it will work. We are getting married at dusk, beachside, followed by Chinese lantern send off then moving into the hotel for deckside cocktail hour with passed
hors d'oeuvres and a Sushi station, as well as signature drinks just for the hour -mojitos & sangria. We will have a cigar roller and live music for that hour. We will move to reception area of ballroom and have a photobooth, a dj, served meal of meat/seafood combo along w salad and sides. We hope to spend the night dancing until the midnight countdown where we will stream NYC ball drop, hand out NYE hats/tiaras horns and have a champagne toast with confetti canons. FH and I may change into new sparkly outfits or at least I will to add to the fun! Starting at 6 pm ending at 1am. Some things were a little pricier and some werent.Depends on where you live.. ours is in south Florida so always more expensive! Good luck!

There was someone who recently posted a BAM for their NYE wedding and it sounded awesome, and I think I remember her giving lots of advice. You might be able to find the thread for it if you search.

NYE weddings are awesome to attend but not pay for! LOL! You will need top shelf liquor and kick ass music. You are competing with w pretty big holiday.

I'm planning a NYE 2018 wedding. The only thing that has been a issue is booking vendors and the up charge for it being a holiday . We are treating it like any other wedding other than it will start later in the evening and we will have the NYE knick knacks and a late night snack since it won't end until 2AM.

I would avoid a holiday wedding completely. Unless you were a sibling I was close with, I would not go to your NYE wedding. Transportation is way more expensive, for one. Drunks are out in full force which makes driving more dangerous. Hotels are booked way sooner and are also way more expensive. All around, no no no. Give me pj's and my pillow before 11pm instead.

First off let me say I have been to about 4 NYE weddings and they were AMAZING. We brought in the New Year in a safe and fun way. I know a lot of venues have a discount on mid week weddings but I am not sure if it will be cheaper because it is a holiday.

    I would not expect discounts.

I second pps that you need to host an almost black tie level wedding if you do a NYE one. Traveling to one will be extra expensive for guests, plus they are giving up a holiday for you. The hosting needs to border over the top in terms of food and drinks.

I would expect things to be more expensive since there's so much competition for caterers and entertainment and venues.

Yes, I agree if you have a NYE wedding it needs to be top shelf everything, lots of amazing food, maybe a live band. Otherwise people would rather go elsewhere than give up their holiday.

Was there a point to posting that you wouldn't attend my wedding or did you just want to post your opinion? This wasn't helpful to what I asked. Thanks tho.
