Planner Expectations

Jaime, on August 31, 2020 at 6:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hello!

Hoping to get a realistic set of expectations about working with a wedding planner.
I am 8 months out from our wedding and have had our planner for a "partial" planning service hired since June.

So far we've had 2 monthly touch base calls and nothing has really happened. I sent her my contracts for vendors I already had, she said she would make connections for the ones that I was missing, made me a rough budget sheet, and she went over my to do list with me. So far my only "homework" has been to find a dress. I haven't been looped in to anything else or talked to about any design/wants.

I'm starting to get nervous that nothing has been checked off and we haven't had any conversations about theme or anything. She's just seen a Pinterest board I sent her. I can't tell if we're just too far out to really dive in anything (and I'm overeager) or she's busy working behind the scenes.

Would love to hear where people typically find themselves at the 8 month mark with partial planning services. Thank you!

What does your contract include? Is she doing the majority of planning for you or starting out a month before the wedding doing last minute minute stuff? What did you agree she would be involvedin when you hiredher?

I also do not think anything is wrong with you asking her to update you after she does certain things or to give you for example, updates every two weeks or something

I think every planner operates differently, I know it may be hard, but just have an honest conversation with her asking what your expectations of her service should be. You may be able to get more frequent phone calls or at least peace of mind

Hi Jaime! Can you list the services that are included in your planning package? They can vary so widely that it's really hard to compare! (Here's a good article with a few examples: The 7 Different Types of Wedding Planners and What They Do.)

I knew with my wedding planner and our package that there would be a few periods of time where we wouldn't need to connect for awhile - so I made sure that we always set a specific check-in time for our next task! Maybe it would be helpful to schedule a call with your planner to put some rough due dates / timelines on the next planning tasks so you're both on the same page about next steps?

    Hi all,

Thanks for the concern and advice! Talking to her is certainly the best step.

The package I purchased included the following:

    • Day of and month of coordination, PLUS:

    • Scheduled Monthly Planning calls with your planner 6-8 months prior to your

    wedding day

    • Lead Planner to attend up to (4) in person meetings ( Budget details, (2) Design / Decor, and a Walk through of the venue)

    • Production of a customized personal Wedding Design/Vision Board capturing elements of our couples down to the very last detail (color palette, unique personal touches, inspirations)

    • Create a budget framework

    • Review all vendor contracts, making sure every “T” is crossed, and negotiate with vendors when necessary

    • Manage the logistics in a timely process and keep you on schedule
