Future Mrs. Kelsay
Dedicated June 2013

Plain jane reception room :(

Future Mrs. Kelsay, on March 14, 2013 at 12:19 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 33

We are on a tight budget. Buying all the table linens/plates/napkins/silverwear/cups soon online. Our colors are Ivory and either chocolate brown or light brown. My soon to be mother in law is making our centerpieces with mason jars fillede with daisies tied with twine and burlap. We will have a head table decorated the same. I want some sort of pazzazz when people walk in but everything seems to either be cheap/tacky looking or expensive!! Someone suggested balloons but isnt that tacky? Please help with some easy inexpensive ideas if you have any. Oh and we will have a gift table with Guest box I made where people give good wishes and advice and put in box as a keepsake for us. Thanks so much....sorry so long!!! Have a great day!!

So far what you have sounds nice. Sometimes simple is better.

Do you have any pictures of the space?

I'm not generally a fan of uplighting (mostly for the expense), but maybe that would give the walls some color and warm up the room. Without seeing a picture of ithe space though. . .

It would be great if you could post some pictures! Do you have a theme? Lighting can help with the ambiance of the room, you can pick up candles cheap!

Do you have a JoAnn's Fabric or something like it near you? They have 40-50% off coupons a lot, so you could buy some organza or similar fabric and drape it down the walls.

Thanks guys!! I do have a hobby lobby!!! Good idea. No joAns Smiley sad I do have a few photos. Its so hard though because its in cali and I live in KS. Planning a wedding from this far can be challenging. Its in the church used normally as a coffee room but has been used for receptions too. I am only having about 70 guests there.

Do you have anyone here in CA who can search around or look at the place for you? Being able to see the place would help a lot I'm sure.

Also, check Amazon, I found some overlays for my tables on there that have great reviews and are reasonably priced Smiley smile

Try the dollar tree website, they have vases and floating candles that you can make pop. this design, including all three vases, aqua balls & flowers were less than $8.00

If its in the budget, maybe do some uplighting or do a wall of drapery just to add color and texture. I like your decor so far. To me just seems like you need more items, but maybe more color to "pop." It will all come together. My venue is a rennovated warehouse, and I just left today to "peak in" to do some spatial planning and they must have an event today and it was soooooooo boring looking, but I had to remind myself that my style is totally different from that couple's so our reception will totall different, and I am trusting that it will be awesome. Yours will too!! Smiley smile

Do they have pics of receptions that have been held there before?

Paper lanterns from the ceiling? Super inexpensive and you could do them in your colors?

Uplighting can make any drab room pop! Especially since you can use your colors. They do sell small lighting lamps at Lowes for like 10.00 that are kinda same, they don't go all the way up the wall to ceiling but they are still pretty. I have 2 in my living room and I love them.

I would maybe add some lighting, even if they are christmas lights done nicely! Or you could try adding some pizzazz with your linens to spice things up, or candles for more romance. Have you considered doing another accent color- even something soft and simple?!

Personally, I hate balloons at weddings.. I would take a look around and see what you can come up with.. or ask the venue if they have photos of other receptions there and see what they did or didn't do that you like! Smiley smile Good luck!

Lighting and adding a pop of color will brighten up the place a lot. Looks like you have an all natural neutral palette so far. Adding a strong color like yellow will add visual interest and brighten up the room.

The lanterns are super cute and you can get those relatively cheap. If you want to do balloons, do the big round balloons and find them in your color story- white, yellow maybe? To match the daisies? And place them evenly like tied to chairs, every 5 chairs or something. Ithink its a cute look and it adds color, whimsy and height to the room. I found them at a Party City but just a multi color bag. I know online you can get every color imaginable.

I saw this on pinterest.. it says if you put a marble in the balloon before filling it with helium that it will make it hang upside down so you don't see the part you blow up. I think it makes it look less "tacky" (I hate that word!) I don't think it would be too expensive.
