Place cards only at a small wedding?

Reya, on January 18, 2022 at 4:44 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
Hi! We downsized our wedding due to Covid (familiar story rn) & now we only have a 45 person guest list and are expecting 35-40 to be able to make it. We’re doing large tables with each family (head table, bride’s mom, bride’s dad, groom’s mom, groom’s dad). With this small of a guest list, can I get away with just doing placecards and not a crazy seating chart? If there’s no seating chart, there’s no point in having table numbers right? Tyia!

I'm not sure if I missed something but if there is no point of doing a seating chart or table number then why do placement cards?

Thinking like a guest and seeing placement card with no chart or table numbers, that means I still need to go look at every table to see where my seat is.

You might as well throw out the placement cards as well. Not to be mean ijs... Most people will just sit with the friends or family members they are closest with anyways.

Hope this helps with your decision & Happy Planning

Correct, if you just use name cards placed at each individuals’s seat at a table, then you would not have to have a displayed seating chart. And if there’s no seating chart, there is no need for table numbers Smiley smile And with this size guest list, you could definitely get away with not having a seating chart.

Place cards are appropriate no matter how many or few guests you have. They are cheaper and less work on your end and so much easier for guests than trying to decipher a small illegible poster that attracts traffic jams and remember where their table is.

Are you trying to have open seating? That will backfire with couples getting split up, people moving chairs around, and general chaos that takes you back to the high school cafeteria.

Definitely assigned seating, we’re doing plated so there will be a seating chart of some kind but I’m thinking of not making a seating chart to display since it will be pretty obvious from checking one or two name cards if thats your table or not. And there’s only 4 tables.

We’re doing plated so we have do a seating chart of some kind but I’m thinking since it’s only 4 tables & it’s obvious by looking at 1 or 2 numbers if you’re sitting there or not (we both come from divorced families so the families are very split so they’ll all probably have a pretty good idea of who they are sitting with ahead of time) Maybe we could skip the displayed seating chart & table numbers?

It’s very common to skip the poster and only have cards displayed on a table. If you want a sign which is unnecessary, it could say “Please find your table” above the cards.

I think is see what your doing, I am pregnant so forgive my brain rn lol. I think your right about doing some-type of chart, we all that that those family member (me and two of my cousin) who won't find their seat until the forth table lol. Our families have certain groups they seem to be closer with (not saying we're not all close), so I get what your saying about how they'll know whom they are sitting with. But like Michelle said people do seem to move chairs.

No you’re fine it is confusing lol, I didn’t know how to describe assigned seating with placecards without a displayed seating chart/table numbers.

Yeah that's what i'm trying to understand. What I would do is the seating chart on here (wedding wire) then print it out and display it in the front so your guest have an idea what type they're at. Then you wont even have to have placement cards... but that's my suggestion.

It's easier to to place cards, in case of sudden changes in plans. Especially with a small group such as yours.
