Pizza?

Rebeca, on March 28, 2018 at 10:17 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 49
My sweet Hunter and I are getting married at a very beautiful barn. Originally we were going to have someone cater homemade country food.. that now seems a little out of budget.. so my fiancé suggested pizza.. would pizza be too tacky for this place?

Catered pizza made on site would be nice but ordering dominos and calling it a day is going to be a nightmare.

Do you have any gluten free guests?
Do you have any veg*n guests?

I agree with PP that it should be catered.

Not everyone likes pizza though, so maybe include some pasta options? I also recommend including a vegetarian/gluten free option.

I’m doing catered pizza! They bring a mobile wood fired oven and set up a tent and make them right in front of your guests. They have so many specialty toppings we got to choose from to create the 4 types of pizzas we are going with. I think the dessert pizza choices are what really got me! Lol

As long as its catered from a nicer pizza place then you're fine. I wouldnt do Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa Johns, etc. I would also add a salad, pasta salad & some wings so you have a nice variety for your guests.

Italian catering & BBQ catering would also be options since they are usually cheaper.

Originally we were going to have someone cater nice food for us but it was out of budget. My fiancé suggested pizza because he thought it’d be cheaper. It would be Pizza Hut or something like that used. The whole purpose is to save money. I love that it’d be cheaper. Everyone likes pizza. I just don’t want to look stupid. And it probably would..

Yum! I would be sooo happy with pizza but it would be a plus to try to order from a nicer place (preferably somewhere local) instead of a chain.

What’s your food budget and guest count? Pizza Hut just doesn’t scream “wedding”.

We have about 122 people invited. I didn’t think Pizza Hut screamed wedding either. I didn’t think pizza did at all 😂 our budget on the whole wedding is $5000 and we’re doing good, but our original plan was charging about $11 a head (which is as cheap as I could find) ended up sending us over our limit.

I would look into italian/bbq before pizza. It is tasty but it is very casual and hard to keep warm. I would try to rearrange your budget if possible. What is your total budget and what were you planning on allocating to catering if you don't mind sharing?

ETA I saw your update. It doesn't seem possible to host that many people on that budget. I would look at cutting your guest list. $11 pp is very, very reasonable.

I personally love the idea of pizza but there's always those selected people who would be offended, have a diet restriction, or think it's tacky. And a thought- you'd have to limit slices per person... there's probably going to be people (like me) who would want the whole pizza. Smiley winking Plus you'd have to think about side options to go with the pizza, and that might add up quickly in cost. What about a local restaurant you both love to do a catering buffet? Usually those are much cheaper options than typical wedding catering.

The first catering service we were going to use was going to do it all. She wanted to make the food, bring the drinks, the plates and silverware, and even serve it all. Clean up too. She didn’t want us doing any of it. She was going to cook some pulled pork, taters, rolls. Country stuff. She was charging $11 bucks a head. I loved the idea honestly.

$11 PP is such a good price.

    My suggestions:
    1) cut the guest list so you can afford the $11 PP
    2) push the wedding so you have time to save up more so you can afford the $11 PP.

I love pizza. However, papa johns, dominos, etc is not pizza in my opinion and I would be super disappointed if that was my only option to eat. If you could find a wood fired pizza or something like that that would be a completely different story.

$11 pp I spoke a great price. I’d cut the guest list. On the same token you would have to figure out how to get the pizza to your guest without them seeing the boxes because I think that’s what makes it tacky.

I personally love pizza! But I agree, try to steal clear of those big names like dominos or Pizza Hut. See if there is a place you can get specialty pizza in your area so it’s a little more special for your guests

You will have to figure out a way to make this plan work. This service sounds very economical.

Cut the guest list so you can get the $11 catering. Pizza would be incredible awkward in that venue, especially pizza hut which i think its disgusting..

Also think logistically how you would keep the pizza hot and fresh. Pizza starts to get soggy and gross within 20 minutes, so unless it’s being made on site it’s going to turn inedible very quickly. Also who will be serving it and cleaning up?
