Pizza truck wedding? good or bad?

Kate, on December 30, 2013 at 7:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

What are your thoughts on a wedding where you are served pizza from a wood burning pizza oven for dinner? Think green salad, and then gourmet pizza... lots of topping options like goat cheese, arugula, homemade meatballs, figs, etc etc and also more traditional options... and after pizza you are served gelato and espresso drinks. (we will also have a standard cocktail hour with appetizers, as well as a wedding cake, and we will have servers so that people don't have to walk up and get their own food) thoughts??? Part of me loves it but part of me feels a little weird serving pizza... but then again I would love it if i went to a wedding that did this.... help!!

Also do you think i need additional food/catering? I know it's very hard to find a caterer that will do a shared event... but not sure if that is enough food for people??

I would love pizza at a wedding!! My only concern is that, if you have a large wedding, are they all going to be waiting a while to get the pizza??

I love pizza! But I also second Jacque--you might want to look into how long it's going to take. Would you serve everyone at once, or let people create their own custom toppings? The logistics might be hard to work out, but the idea of it is awesome!!

Thanks everyone! the pizza truck said that each pizza only takes 3 minutes to cook, and they can start prepping prior to when we eat.. so i was thinking that the first round they would bring different types of pizzas to the tables, and then the second round we could have servers taking orders, so the pizzas are being brought to their tables and hopefully minimizing the wait time by bringing pizzas over initially...

In my mind thr appetizers should hold your guest. You may want to extend the appetizer time and leave it on a display for those who just can't wait. Take an order per table. Small personal pizzas dont take long at all. Food trucks are used to time restraints due to the lunch hour rush.

I would love that, we actually considered that type of catering if we had chosen a specific venue.

I think as long as there are appetizers and the pizza is prepped for the first round, it sounds great.

A few others are also doing food trucks. I'd totally do it if I could.

    My concern would be:

Does each person get to choose what they want? Do they all have to stand in line to pick there toppings and then wait for their pizza to cook? That could take a long time,

Yes! after the first round they would get to choose.... my only fear is... is that enough food? it's really hard to find a caterer that will collaborate for an event... do you think we need another food truck? I've been to weddings where people do two... but that just seems like over kill to me especially because we are not having a big wedding...but not sure..

I've been to a wedding that was catered by two food trucks. Very unique but the food preparation was slow, so guests had to wait several minutes on their food. I think it is a great idea! But you may want to discuss options with your caterer about options to prevent long wait times for food.

It's totally enough food and an awesome idea. I would kill to go to a wedding with pizza. Super fun and I love the fact that it's gourmet.

Agreed, as long as the prep is quick enough, this sounds like an awesome idea! I would be stoked if I were at guest!
