Pizza Reception

I'm serving pizza at my wedding reception! I want it to be gourmet, not like average pizza. Has anyone else done this or attended a reception that served pizza? How was it, too casual or no? What do I serve with it? Any advice helps! Thanks in advance!

No. No pizza. It's a wedding, but a kid's birthday party.

When I looked into it, I found a catering company that had a travelling wood fire grill so the pizza is cooked right then. As far as what to have with it, you can have a salad bar like others have suggested.

We are having pizza! A local restaurant has a mobile wood-burning oven that they use for catering. They'll park outside and continuously be making pizzas to refill the buffet. The rest of the wedding is fancy, but we're casual people so we're very excited about this!

I'm having pizza served at one of the stations during our cocktail hour :-) It's the pasta station, which will also have pizza. Again, this is just one of the many stations during our cocktail hour, and not the main course. An Italian buffet, like someone else suggested, may be a better idea

For a wedding meal? No matter the level of gourmet, it's still pizza -- the ultimate fast food. Alyssachu called it hand food, and that's perfect. That's the reason I don't love the idea of tacos at a wedding. They're messy, can be difficult to eat, and if I had dropped taco stuffing or pizza sauce on the gown I wore to last Saturday's wedding, I wouldn't be happy. In fact, I'd probably try to cut these food items up with a knife and eat them with a fork.

Pizza can be totally cool as an app because you can pop them into your mouth, but a slice? No, I'd probably pass and just eat the salad.

You are doing this, so I'd be careful to keep the rest of the wedding rather casual.

I personally would looooove to attend a wedding with gourmet pizza. Just have a variety of different and unique toppings and styles and it'll make it more fun too! I see no problem with having a casual dinner. When I first started wedding planning, I wanted to have chipotle cater...

Yikes. Just seeing the date of this post. How did it go? Smiley smile

    My original post:

Are you completely set on serving your guests pizza? I guess if this is a low-key backyard wedding type then it's okay, but as a person having attended a wedding where they served "gourmet" pizza... and let's just say that 100% of the guests had to take time off of work to make a Tuesday destination wedding... and we felt insulted by the pizza reception and the cash bar.

It was an intimate wedding with the closest family and friends (less than 25 people), but even then it felt too casual for the wedding.

I'd have side dishes of pasta, (2) types of salad/veggie to go with it for a bit more variety. Smiley smile
