Pizza buffet receptions

Cathleendanielle, on March 27, 2018 at 7:38 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 32
Has anyone had one? How did you decide how many pizzas to get? We're also having wings and salads. 130 people. I just got off the phone with my amazing mother, whom I absolutely adore, and she thinks I'm insane for wanting to order at least 26 16" pies. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Also, it should be noted, my mom doesn't think anyone will be expecting dinner at the reception. After our 6 pm ceremony. 😭😭😭😭😭 11 days to go and this is what I'm getting grief about?!

Is your plan delivery or catering? At 11 days out this needs to be top priority! Did you have another plan initially?

No. We've been in contact with the restaurant delivering them. They'll be setting it up. We were just waiting for our RSVP deadline to get the final number of pies needed. Our rsvps are all in and she was asking for the order to put in with the restaurant and she got very defensive that it was way too many.

Wait who got defensive? The restaurant or your mother?

I would budget at least 3 (maybe 4) pieces per person, even if you have wings and salad.

My mother. She said no one is expecting dinner.

I think 3 or 4 slices per person is excessive considering the size of the pizzas. We budgeted 2.5 slices per person since ther3 are other foods. She said it was outrageous. To only budget 1 slice per person. I was just hoping to get some insight from someone that's done a pizza buffet.

I agree. I'd probably budget for 3 a piece, even if they're large slices.

I actually think 26 sounds about right with the salad and wings.

Genius. Thank you. I'll definitely use that calculator. I managed a pizza restaurant for 8 years. I was going by my previous knowledge. These are must nicer pizzas though. Lol

I would stop worrying about your mother honestly. Sense she seems to be against feeding your guests.

Has the reasterant done this before? They might have insight.

No no matter how big the pizzas are people usually think in slice form, and I’ve seen individual people put away entire 16” pizzas before.

I agree to ask about how many slices are in a pizza and estimate 4 per person. Sounds delicious!

According to the calculator, 33 16" pizzas is what I would need if no other food is being served. We're getting about 600 wings. 5 large salads (enough for 140)

Yum- can I please come!!! I love pizza hehe. Are you going out of town right after? Extra pizza never hurt anyone! And people can take it home- extra wedding favor!! Plus the venue staff probably wouldn’t mind some pizza if there are left overs.

Nope. We aren't. We even have three extra people in our home during! I told her I would rather have too many than not enough.

I’d call the restaurant you plan to order the pizza from and ask their opinion. If you want to guesstimate yourself, I’d go for 3 slices per person.

FH actually wanted to do this originally and I was considering letting him until I got hospitalized level sick off of food poisoning from a dominos near Christmas time and haven't been able to look at pizza since. It's a very sad thing to be afraid of pizza 😥

I would estimate 3 slices per person though. I work somewhere where we do a monthly meeting and serve pizza and wings and you would be surprised at the amount of food someone will pile on their plate.

Did you put dinner and dancing to follow on the invitation? No reason people won’t expect food... we usually eat dinner around 7pm on average not before 5 lol

Sure did! I'm not sure why my mom thinks this. I really don't. I love her so so much. She has been a rockstar through all of this but she's very sure no one will eat much pizza if we provide it. .......at dinner time? We literally have the reception hall from 5 pm until midnight.

It’s never too late for pizza! My FH and I are pizza freaks and would have done this if we had better pizzeria options near our venue. We are even tempted to order some before the party is over as a “late night munchie”
We expect our guests to be dancing all night and that works up an appetite.

But it maybe if you didn’t want to order as many pizzas, ask your restaurant if they could do some bread sticks? Could be a cheaper option as well. For the people who want something small to go with a salad.

Good luck! And I think just ignoring your mom at this point would be easier for you. Not much time left to sit around and debate with her about it.

What is the size of the pizza? Are they cut in triangles or squares? As a Chicagoan, I'd say to estimate AT LEAST 6 pieces per person, but our pizza comes in squares. I've had triangles before and I think 3-4 of those is a safe estimate.
