Pizza at the reception: fun/unique or trashy?

Having a really hard time trying to decide what to do for catering. I've seen a lot of things on Pinterest for food bars like burgers, tacos, etc and like that idea for our more casual theme. We're having an Italian restaurant do the food for our rehearsal dinner, so I thought about asking them if they would do a pizza bar for the wedding reception. It's a nice restaurant so it's not like we're ordering pizza from Dominos or something. I've seen a few things on social media with positive reviews, my only worry is that my mother will throw the biggest fit (she's already upset that we aren't having a black-tie affair). Do you know anyone who has done pizza at their wedding? Are you planning to do it yourself? Please share!

I love pizza and I'd actually be fine with artisan pizza at a wedding, but I think overall it would go better if it's not the only option. If you pared it with a big salad bar and a pasta bar, that would work well.

If pizza is a no I don't see how pasta is a better choice.

Can they do a nice flatbread? I feel like that has more cache than pizza?

We're having a plated 5 course meal but we are also having a midnight table. Midnight table will have pizza, but also a lot of different options as it is a sweet and salty table (So lots of desserts but also pizza, poutine, italian sausages, mcdonalds..). I wouldn't have pizza as the main meal, but if there's other things I don't think it's a big deal.

We plan on doing a pizza bar if the venue we choose allows it. We want to do a pasta bar and pizza bar! Ive been browsing on pinterest and i think if its done right, it wont look tacky. But its both of our fav foods so we both winSmiley smile Our wedding is also not very traditional in look and theme though so i think it will work for us.

We had a veggie flatbread as one of our apps. It worked really well as an app. I also think pizza works really well for a late night snack.

If you do pizza as the main course, I think it has to be done right. Have a pizza station, so it's an option rather than the only option. Have the other station(s) be something meat based. You could maybe do a pasta bar with chicken or eggplant Parmesan. Make sure that you do have an option for anyone who is lactose, vegetarian or vegan.

FH and I plan to have an end of the night snack and I had looked into a pizza truck as an option, but I wouldn't serve it during the cocktail hour or dinner.

As a late night snack after dancing and drinking, that's what we're doing, but as the main meal, not so much

I would love it as a late night snack but for a wedding dinner.

We used our church hall for our wedding rehearsal and pizza as served. We were all just as happy as can be.

I'm a total foodie so it was important to me to have a multi-course, sit-down meal at our wedding. That being said, I think you should do what fits your personality. Your wedding should be a reflection of your personality and preferences as a couple! If you guys love pizza, go for the pizza!

Your mother had her chance to throw her own black-tie wedding. Don't worry about what other people think of what you decide to do for your wedding!
