Picky Eaters

amber , on October 26, 2011 at 7:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

We have been looking at food for the reception and finding it hard to decide. The issue always goes back to the picky eaters in the family. Some dont eat meat others hate meat with seasons and others are alergic fish. Im thinking a buffet to make sure there is something for everyone. Im just afraid it will be tacky since its more a formal event. Do you think it will be tacky or best idea for so many picky ppl?

No way. I think Buffets can be very nice and it gives people a choice. They CAN be done very elegantly, and i never would have believed it until I saw my sisters.... it was awesome!!! Go for the buffet, dont stress yourself

I don't like buffer personally but I've seen it plenty of time at formal wedding, so it should be fine.

Buffet is fine, but whatever you do I don't think you should try to please everyone. There's always going to be someone who will complain and not eat.

Definitely do a buffet. As a picky eater myself, I'm always pretty thrilled when there is a buffet, but I don't get upset when there's not. I personally don't feel like it's your job to suit my tastes. Serve quality food, make sure it's something you and FH enjoy, and know that people who are picky know they are picky, and will hopefully plan for that.

Coming from a picky eater, I love buffets! I can pick & choose what I like & take more of what I like & leave what I don't. Of course, I don't expect everyone to cater to me so I wouldn't have a cow if you served a plated meal & I only liked half of it. It happens more often than you'd think. I also don't think a buffet would "de-formalize" your wedding either. Do you as you see fit though! It's awfully nice of you though to consider us picky eaters, btw ;]

I think a buffet is fine - but I think you have to also draw the line somewhere. I completely love when couples accommodate guests within reason (allergy, vegetarianism, etc.) but don't stress out if you can't please EVERYONE!

We are having an elegant wedding and doing a buffet. Its the most affordable, easiest way to please as many people as possible.

We decided on a buffet because of all the picky eaters we know. I know we cant please everyone but feel we can have a better chance of everyone finding something they will eat with a buffet. I dont think its tacky at all.

As a veggie, the nice thing about a buffet is I know I can load up on the salad and vegetables. At a plated dinner they usually skimp on substance.

However, that being said, knowing I'm a picky eater, I usually try to eat something beforehand (and I always carry a granola bar) because the bride/groom aren't there to cater to my every last "no butter no meat" wish.

My FSIL is a vegan. We've already discussed the menu with her.

Do a buffet. Ya wanna be picky? Have a salad. I mean really, it's your wedding day, not a night out at Denny's. You have much better things to be worried about than who eats what. Bravo Meghan! As usual!

BUT if you decide to do a sit down, a vegetarian option shouldn't be a wildly unusual request for your venue. Do a chicken, a beef and a veg entree and everyone will be happy.
