Picking a venue

That really depends on your budget and what you want from a venue.
We booked ours a year in advance because a lot of the nicer places in my area book quickly. Add that on top of having a holiday wedding, we wanted to book something before places started having holiday parties.

ASAP. Venues tend to book more than a year out in peak seasons. We booked our venue in March of 2018 for November of 2019 and it was the only non-winter weekend date that they had left until 2020.

Yup, some venues book 1-2 years out and you don’t want to miss a great venue. And it’s not just venues. For our local reception in a wine area (we also booked a year in advance) hotels SOLD OUT six months in advance—leaving some guests scrambling, paying $200+ for a crappy motel which was the only one left, or not getting a room at all and having to drive 90 minutes home. 😩

You don’t have a date until you have a venue. So you need to pay a deposit and sign a contract at a venue to have a date to be able to book your other vendors.

Depends on the popularity but for us we wanted to do it as one of the first things out of the way on our checklist

Book your venue ASAP. We booked ours this year n our wedding is next year.

We picked ours last July 2018 for a Oct 2019 wedding & our date was the only Saturday afternoon available in the fall. Honestly a lot of the fall Friday’s & Saturday’s in 2019 were already booked at our venue.
