Piano or Harp?

A&G, on March 11, 2014 at 11:18 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I am having a really hard time deciding what I want for my ceremony music.

I decided a while ago that I wanted the music played live at my ceremony and now I have it narrowed down to two musicians.

The first one is a good friend of mine. He plays the piano and I know he's really good at it. He's also able to play the songs that I want and find the piano music for the songs that I don't have the music for.

My second option is someone a friend recommended who plays the harp. I think the harp would sound so amazing and would totally fit with the fairy tale theme for the wedding. But, after looking at her repertoire list, she doesn't play any of the songs I want. I could ask her to learn one new song for me, but not several new songs.

I'm not sure what do to. Do I go with my friend who can play the songs that I want on piano, or go with the harp and have the beautiful sound of harp music at my fairy tale wedding?

I think you should go with the piano. I only say this because your friend knows all your songs you want played. It would probably be pretty hard and more expensive for the harpist to learn a bunch of new songs just for one event, your wedding.

If you want to have a harp, perhaps have it during cocktail hour and let her play the songs she knows.

If you have specific songs you want to hear at your wedding, go with the piano-- even if she is *willing* to learn a new song for you, there is no guarantee that the song you want to hear can actually be arranged for harp-- it is a little easier to do that with piano.

We are going with a harp. I was lucky to find someone who can play anything and she is awesome! I would ask the harpist first and she if they can play what you want. Then make your decision.
