Photographer vs Videographer. Which one is more important ?

Chrissy4985, on July 29, 2015 at 1:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Hello ladies. So I am crunching my budget and I am thinking of going with a videographer over a photographer. I hear a lot of the times the wedding day goes by so quickly that the video helps you recapture the moment. Also the videographer I spoke to mentioned they can take still pictures of some moments, so I am thinking that may be enough. What do you ladies think? Also what's more important to you? Are you going with both or just one? Thanks in advance.

I am going with just a photographer because I can't imagine watching the video more than once. And I know family members will want photos.

We have two photographers but no videographer. We're just going to set up a camera to get some raw footage. We splurged on photography - it's important to both of us and I really wanted to have nice pictures from the day to display around our house, for example. But our photographers have a more candid style, so they do a great job capturing the real moments and they don't do just the super-posed formal stuff.

I don't think the quality of the photos from the video will be the same as from a professional photographer. Because we are unlikely to watch the video often, a photographer is more important for us.

I think the photographer would be more important but if you can afford a videographer I suggest that you get one. We had both at our wedding and I can't wait for the video to come in so that I can see things that I missed.

We had a photographer, no videographer. while you can capture stills from your video, here's the truth: you can't hang the video on your wall, and you're going to watch that video and say "Oh - stop! I Want a still of that moment... oh stop! that one too... oh stop! that one too!"

I'd rather ask a few BFFs - NOT immediately family - to take short videos on their camera phones of special moments - walking the aisle, the vows, the cake cutting, whatever is important to you - than miss out on all the photos that you can acutally use.

Because I suspect what you really want is video of the ceremony and a few key moments... you're going to get a LOT of video of people dancing, people talking, and stuff that you will end up fast-forwarding through.

Go with the photographer if you have to pick one, and "crowdsource" video of important moments is my feeling.

IMO Photographer over videographer for sure, if you could afford both that's one thing but if you had to pick I think you'd get a lot more out of the pictures. I like Rebecca's idea of asking friends to take short videos and you can hopefully compile a collection and if technology allows merge the videos (is that possible?)

Though I do take videos and still shot moments all the time, if there has to be a choice, I'm going with what Rebecca said.

that and if you have video from people you know, and there's no copyright, you can edit it and pull still shots as you please.

guess I'd have to go with photographer if you have to choose.

that and you can take a camera, put in on a tripod and just let it run off in the corner Smiley smile

Photographer only. Like the previous post said we figured we would not watch the video much but would like to have the photos so we could hang around the house.

Photographer over videographer. We splurged on an awesome photographer right from the beginning and later I decided I also wanted a videographer. We got a good one and I'm sure they'll do a good job. Even now I can honestly say I value photo over video. We'll see if that changes after the wedding Smiley winking

Photographer for sure. You'll frame some of those pictures and look at them every day. But really, how often will you watch even the best video?

    Definitely photographer over videographer.

A good photographer does SO MUCH. They know how to pose you, what angle and lighting to use, and they help keep the day moving along.

IMO photographer over videographer. I can't see me giving my family a video of the wedding but I can see giving them photos.

Photographer! You can't always sit and watch the video, but you can always print and hang your wedding pictures, and have them as part of your life.

I know a videographer and I have seen the stills she can take from video and they are AMAZING, so as long as the videographer is using top of the line equipment they can get fantastic quality photos. However, make sure your videographer is willing to put in the time/work for the agreed upon price! The videographer I know charges extra to do this because it's so much extra work editing the stills she takes. Just be aware it may not save you money! Smiley smile

Photographer is definitely more important, but if it is in your budget, get a videographer as well.

I'd say if you can only afford one, go with the photographer. You can do a slide show of pictures and add some videos shot by your guests with phones if you want to.

A photographer is definitely more important. Pictures will last for years to come but you may not watch the wedding video again. If you have to choose between the two and can't afford both pick the photographer.

A photographer is a staple. A videographer is an extra add on. I've never been to a wedding without a photographer - it is just not done. A video is an extra bonus if you have the funds. The wedding is a blur and it captures a different element. I love our photos and I love our video. They are both unique and add to the experience.

We had both - everyone I know who did not book a videographer regretted it. We watch ours frequently and the raw footage is hilarious. I also love being able to hear our vows being spoken and all the other elements I wouldn't remember without the video.
