Photographer payment

Lauren, on July 20, 2014 at 4:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

Is it standard for a photographer to ask for full payment before the wedding? How are you all paying yours? We don't know of we should pay in full before receiving our photos!

We had a deposit and the rest was due within 10 days before the wedding. However, we decided to pay the photographer off over time instead.

I highly doubt a photographer will be ok with waiting for full payment after pictures have been delivered.

Actually, I think most just take a deposit when you sign the contract. My photographer just needs payment in full one week before the wedding. My package includes edited digital images and full copyrights. We will buy prints separately.

I am assuming you read reviews and asked the "what to ask your wedding photographer" questions etc... prior to booking. Please make sure to check your contract!

Ours takes a $200 deposit to hold the date then half is due two months before the wedding and the balance is due when we sit down to view our pictures.

Yes, it's standard. Timing depends slightly. We paid $1000 deposit and the balance any time up to the day before the wedding.

We paid a deposit (50%) and the rest was due two weeks before the wedding. This was the same with all our vendors (venue, DOC, florist, baker, etc.).

We were to pay the deposit and then the balance a week before the wedding but he took forever with our engagement pictures so we told him we will pay him 95% and the rest after we receive the pictures.

We paid a third of the price and she said the rest we can either pay over time or give the balance 10 days before the wedding. I had a little extra so i sent a check for the rest of the balance. all paid off !

It really depends on your photographer. We spoke to numerous ones and some had you pay their deposit and monthly payments before the wedding. The one photographer we like the most so far want us to pay a deposit, and two payments until the wedding and then the remaining balance will be paid when the photos and promised items are delivered and completed.

My photographer set up 3 payments for us. First was due at booking the next about 1/2 way through planning and then our last is due by the 31st of this month. If you signed a contract you agree to their terms of payment, so read your contract and be careful trying to not live up to it bc they can take legal action against you bc you would be in breech of the contract.

We have two other payments outside of the deposit required at the time of the contract. The second payment is due right before the wedding and the last when the pictures are ready. There's no way I would pay in full for wedding photos prior to my wedding.

Yep, as many have said we did a deposit but for all of our vendors full payment is due around 15 days before the event. Hopefully it all goes smoothly. The nice thing is everything is paid for by the wedding date so no stress about having to run checks around (hopefully).

We paid 30% down and then the remaining balance is due when the pictures are handed over, but it is in our contract that if we cancel after X date, we are still responsible for the full amount remaining. Protects them and protects us too Smiley smile

Thanks for the responses ladies. I talked to my planner about it and she said it was normal; just want to make sure we aren't getting screwed!

Yes, definitely standard. Ours required a 50% deposit to book the date and the remaining 50% 10 days before the wedding.
