100% the couple's fault, both for treating their friend horribly and not investing in a professional.

Regardless of whether the photographer is a professional or not, you can’t refuse a break to a person working your event for 10 hours. The fact that the groom said they wouldn’t pay if the photographer left to get food is absolutely ridiculous, especially considering how little they were trying to pay in the first place. This is on the couple.

Agree. Even if they hired a professional, this still isn't OK for the couple to do. For a 10-hour day, a couple of breaks and a meal (or two) would be necessary regardless of if the photographer is a friend or professional. I don't blame the photographer for this at all.

Wow this is insane. I totally agree. You can’t refuse someone basic human needs regardless if you hired them or not. That’s just wrong. I would expect anyone I hire to do the same thing if I was to refuse them food, water, or restroom and then tell them I won’t be paying them. Now even if she wasn’t a professional, if I knew I was going to be on my feet all day following around a bride and photographing a wedding I would plan ahead and at least bring some protein bars and some electrolytes. Still though…totally on the couple to treat someone that way.

I'm curious as to what the couple does for a living. Do they not get lunch and restroom breaks? How would they feel if their boss treated them in this fashion? It's inhumane, unethical, and just wrong. 100% agree with the photographer / dog groomer.

As a former wedding vendor, I legit laughed out loud.

The couple 100% deserved this. You do not ever hire a vendor and then tell them they "need to [work]" instead of being fed. And you especially do not do this to a friend.

This, however, is why I don't think vendors (professional or otherwise) should agree to work for friends. My husband's business partner did a wedding completely for free for a friend - and unfortunately, the footage got corrupted. The couple proceeded to tell everyone that they never got their FREE wedding video from my husband's business. They don't mention that it was only the business partner, they don't mention it was free because the partner is their friend, they just told people "they were our videographers and we never got our wedding video," as if they had hired them as a vendor. (Which, by the way, if this did happen to a paying customer, they would be refunded in full without any questions asked. Can't exactly refund someone who didn't pay you a cent in the first place.) This happened three years ago and they still get messages saying "I want to hire you but my friend [the bride] told me she never got her wedding video from you."

    Don't work for friends.

This couple still got exactly what they deserved, though.

In the photographer's place, I would have done the same thing. The photographer was not the _______, the couple was.

They definitely got what they deserved. Not only is that not a way to treat any human, especially Isn’t how you treat a “friend”. Insane.

I totally think the couple was being mean about it. how can you expect someone to work 10 hours and not give them a break? even my DJ came at 4:30p til 11p and that's not even 10 hours but i gave him food for sure.

but i DO also kind of feel bad for them though =x like i can't imagine all your wedding photos just GONE like that. but that's also karma for treating people badly.

I honestly applaud you. They deserved that. Hopefully they think twice the next time they forget that the workers around them are humans.

We live in a world where too many get away with treating others like dirt without consequences. I'm going to assume they didn't have a contract in place either so that couple is outta luck. That's what you get for being too cheap to hire a professional and expect your friend to be a slave for a day.
