Photographer album vs. Shutterfly

Erin Wood, on September 13, 2016 at 10:43 PM Posted in Planning 1 46

My photographer will put together a really nice album for me but it'll cost me about $800. I was thinking of just using Shutterfly to create my own album. Has anyone done this? How did it turn out?

Thank you!

I would honestly do the photographer album. There's a HUGE difference in quality between an actual photographer's albums versus Shutterfly.

Eta: ...oh look, another "this costs!" Post...

I only included the price because if it was like $200 I would do it. But $800 is a lot for a book I'll never look at. No need to be snarky MNA. People post things about money on here all the time.

I'd order one from the photographer just because it'll be a nice quality book you can keep for a long time. You'll appreciate it more in 10,15,or 20 years!

Yes, people post things about money on here all the time, but only one posts all the things about money all the time.

Go look through your post history. It's all there in black and white.

My photographer charges $1000 for the album. I just can't bring myself to get it at that price.

Look at Artifact Uprising! Wayyyy better quality than shutterfly. More expensive than shutterfly, but much less than you will pay with your photographer.

My photographer will put together a really nice album for me but it will be pricey, expensive, more money than I want to spend.

How hard was that? Not hard at all.

My Mom is buying the dress. Pretty sure it's not just money to spend as I want. She worked really hard to save that money. If the dress is less which I am sure it will be I'm not going to ask her for it for another reason.

    Yes! Artifactuprising.com

It is similar to shutterfly in that you create your own album, but the quality is infinity times better. I used it for my wedding photos and plan to make more albums in the future Smiley smile

I'll bite. I didn't choose the package that included the album, and I took my time over several months post-wedding trying to decide where to make our album. I'm going to order prints from Mpix but I just couldn't drop upwards of $500 on an album right now. I spent $150 on a deluxe leather album with lay flat pages from Shutterfly. I added 8 extra pages and also a pocket to put our programs/invites etc in as well. The quality was great and I've looked at it almost every day - and it has motivated me to get my prints and pictures framed as soon as I can!

Ms. MRose. I know the feeling! I just don't think I'll ever look at it. I don't know anyone who pulls out their wedding album after the first year. But maybe in 20-30 years it'll be nice to have? It's a tough decision.

Thanks Spazzy! That's a good idea. I actually have a coupon for shutterfly that I've been meaning to use from my last vacation. I don't know anything about the quality. This is all really helpful! Thank you!

Just remember, many times the wedding album is not for you. It's for children and other family after you're gone.

A wedding album is truly a legacy item.

I'd honestly go professional I'm willing to go diy, or alternative routes on everything except photography. It's the one thing you'll have physical memories of your day 15 years down the road.

Nastassia- I keep hearing it'll be something I want in the future. Hard to know what I'm going to care about 20 years from now. I don't want any regrets.

I know I'm going to be ordering tons of prints from my photographer and we also get the digital disk, so if I can hold off on the album for awhile, that's my plan
