Personalized/custom Ideas for Your Wedding Day

Taylor, on April 2, 2020 at 10:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 19
All my brides - can you share any personal touches you want to add to your wedding day? Anything to make it extra special for you and your fiancé.

My fiancé and I may have to cancel our Jamaica wedding because of covid 19. We may have to get married at our church instead, so I’m trying to think of ways to make it extra special in case everything is closed.

That's the thing about personal touches - they have to be about you.

DH and I ended up theming our wedding around our two passions, baseball and theatre. This was reflected in everything from the invitations to the speech by the officiant to the cake to the swordfight we had at the reception.

So, really, it comes down to what you two love. Think about how you can reflect a shared passion, and those little touches will come.

The "personal touch" of our wedding is we are having it in a town that's special to us. It's the city I went to college in, we fell in love there, and it's where we got engaged. Very beautiful place, gorgeous and scenic. We're catering from all our favorite restaurants from up there, and we're making a whole weekend of it, inviting folks up early to go hiking with us, bum around town, etc. It's 6 hours away in Michigan, and some people have been a little grumbly about that, but we just can't imagine getting married anywhere else. Sharing our favorite place in the country with everyone is the personal thing we're doing.

That being said, there was a time when we were planning for a wedding where we currently live. None of the venues were special to us, so I started trying to make them special by planning on bringing in tons of decor to get the "personal" vibe I wanted. Now that we're having our wedding where we really want, I don't feel a great need to overdecorate the place as I feel it speaks for itself.

While you may not be able to go with your original plan, is there a place that is special to you here? Somewhere that you could have the ceremony that means something for your relationship?

We are doing a “Harry Potter” theme... So tons of “HP” items and hand painted things. I have a sign for the memorial table that was hand lettered by the lady who did the Crown Princess of Sweden’s invitations!!
It could be a fun story for your wedding that you used the services of the same person as the crown princess of Sweden 😊😁”

“ You cannot read Swedish but you can see my name Rosette Johansson in the book about their wedding.”
Fun fact: When the crown princess of Sweden got married in 2010 I made a font in calligraphy that they made digital and used for the envelopes and the names of the guests on the invitations.“ —-her messages to me.

A personal touch that I’m adding to my own wedding is having some fun activities for the kids in attendance.
My fiancé and I currently have 40 children on our guest list 😂
We will have paper and crayons so the kids can make cards for us, a couple of songs/dances like Baby Shark and the Hokey Pokey, and a photo scavenger hunt.I know not everyone has kids at their wedding, but it’s something we’re excited about, and we definitely have some unique touches because of that ☺️
We will also have live musicians playing for the ceremony that we have heard before and really enjoy!!

Our personal touch is including a gaming room. We are setting up a projector with the Nintendo switch hooked up for Mario Kart and Super smash Bros. We are also setting up all of our favorite board games for our guests to play! And finally we are putting custom dice on all the tables with rule books so guests can play and then take the dice home as a wedding favor!

Thanks K.J. for your comment! I love your idea and input. I’m happy you and your fiancé will get to marry in your favorite place. Don’t worry about what other people think! My fiancé and I plan to elope, so people were mad at first then they got over it. I think once they see how special it is to you guys then your guests will know it was worth the extra travel.

So far we’re thinking our church because it may be the only location due to COVID19. We would love to get married where we first met and had our first date (old fashioned soda fountain shop) but I’m afraid they would be closed. I’ll still check and contact them anyways- thanks for that!!

Aw, I love that! As a kindergarten teacher I can appreciate that. I lot of kiddos can be tough to handle even with parents present. That’ll make it much better and fun for them- they’ll be having so much fun! We will have children at our reception too but not as many. I have saved pins on Pinterest of free little activity books for them to do and we’ll have a little table that have lollipops, fruit snacks, etc.
I love the live musician idea for your ceremony as well! Thanks for your input ❤️

OMG this is amazing! The favors are the icing on the cake. Everyone will love both playing and watching. What kind of board games will you have?

P.S. My fiancé have a board game called Discovery where you get to know each other even better and talk about things you never really thought to talk about. I think it got it on amazon for around. 30$

I was on Instagram and she had done a “Harry Potter” type lettering and I sent her a private message... After a few notes back and forth I asked if she would like to make the items for me... She was flattered and happily made them, I paid for them and they arrived in perfect condition....
The purple was my Grandfather’s favorite colour and the peach was my Grandmother’s.... “All of Me” is our song, my son used it for my grandparents memorial- they’d been married for 65 years when she passed & he passed 9mo to the day after

That's adorable!!! You know if they are closed and losing business, I wonder if you paid them the owner might be willing to open it for you to take couple photos there? Just a thought, those sorts of vintage shops are so cute, it could make a great backdrop. Smiley catface

    Best of luck with everything!

We are adding personal touches with 2 themes. At first we wanted a more naturalist feel as we love the outdoors, hiking in the woods & camping. Then my FH requested that we integrate a celestial theme. We love being outdoors under the night sky so we’re incorporating elements of each! Moss, ferns, lots of greenery, lights, stars.
We have always watched monthly celestial forecasts together of the night sky and one of our first sayings was “to the horsehead nebula & back,” so I got a cake topper customized that says that.
There’s a lot of ideas & inspiration out there. I would focus on something that is uniquely you 😊

Thank you for your input, Marisa! I love the celestial theme as well. I have a personalized cake topper too! Ours is in Disney font since we are disney lovers. Looking for new ways to incorporate that with our venue!

I’ve never heard of that phrase, I know your guests will remember that! Thank you 😊
