Each of my parents are giving us money as our wedding present either to help with the wedding costs or use towards a house. We havents asked my fiance parents to help out but they said they would in the past. I expect we will end up putting some stuff on a credit card or two but hoping it's not more than a few thousand.

We are budgeting and paying for things as we go along, no loans! My mom offered to pay for my dress and my grandma offered to pay for our dj which really helped.

FH and I had a long engagement mostly because he is still in grad school, but partially to save as much as we can. We decided long ago that we wanted one salary to support us (mine, its a bit higher) and one salary for "fun money." FH has been putting a good chunk into a wedding savings account and we've paid for some things along the way. I put what I can on a credit card then pay it off so I get the points. Since FH is a savings machine, we think we will have everything we need saved up for both the wedding and our honeymoon seven months before our actual wedding. Hopefully we wont need all of it, especially since FH's parents generously gave us $5k and offered to pay for the rehearsal dinner. Anything left will be split in half to go into our retirement accounts.

As soon as we got engaged I started saving money towards our wedding. We purposely set our date two years out so that we would have time to save. One thing that really helped visually, was we've used a fire proof lockbox, and withdraw cash and put the cash into designated envelopes for certain thing... for example, the caterer or the DJ. I wrote the amount we were aiming for on the envelope and kept track of the money we put into each of them until we reached that goal. It's kind of old school, but having all the money in a savings account made it hard for me to "see" where it all belonged/what it was designated for and if we had reached our budget goals. I've also put some money into a savings account for online purchases and moved the money to my checking as I bought things. We have had to put half of our venue amount on a credit card, however, because it was due by a specific date with little time to save for it and we booked a cruise for our honeymoon on a credit card. Another thing that was super helpful was that our photographer takes monthly payments from when you book him until your wedding date and since we had booked him so far out we had 21 months to pay him off, which was about $65 a month. It's been hard, we haven't gone on many trips and haven't been spending as much.. but we're 3 months from our big day now and all our vendors are paid off and just about everything is paid for!

We just started saving and opened a joint account to put a portion of our check in each month. We have until next spring so here and there will also throw in extra we have. It can be pulled out 6 times a month and earns interest so it’s pretty great.

Definitely saving what we can ahead of the wedding date - but we will also rely on savings we have accumulated over the years, too. We're putting some purchases on credit cards - for example, our ceremony/reception venue is coded as a 'restaurant' so we get double points for that - coupled with a sign-on bonus for a new card, this works out in our favor.

We looked at how much we had in savings and discussed how much of that we were willing to spend. However, our budget did not survive meeting the reality of vendor pricing so we’ve had to increase the budget twice to get the vendors we wanted.

If we didn’t have the amount we needed already saved, we would have eloped, had an long honeymoon, and throw a dinner reception for family only and handful of close friends when we returned to show/share our elopement and honeymoon videos and photos.

This is a bit of a bummer, but – my dad passed away this past August, and I got a pretty hefty chunk of change from his life insurance payout. My fiancé and I are splitting expenses, but I'm using a portion of the life insurance money to cover my half of the wedding. It's sad, but I'm thinking of it as my dad giving me my wedding as one last gift.
