Personal experiences with David's Bridal?

One shop is of course David's Bridal. A friend of mine had quite a few issues with her experience at one of their locations and I've heard other mixed reviews, but my mom is insisting that I at least try looking there. Anyone with good/bad experiences with them?

Thank you!

I went to the one in Orem last year when a friend of mine was looking for dresses. we went on a Sunday morning, so the store was almost empty, and she was able to try on a ton of gowns and ended up finding one she loved! it was perfect for her, and the consultant was very helpful.

I had good experiences and I went to different locations. the employees were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. ultimately I didn't buy my dress from them but I did get my sister's MOH dress there. my mom plans on getting her dress there too. it has a range of prices and the dresses are lovely and in a variety of colors.

@Lissyloo- that's my favorite Davids dress!!

Let me preface by saying I worked there as a stylist until this past Wednesday.

There are awesome locations- like the one I was at. And there are crappy ones like the other store in our area. That being said, yes during peak shopping times from Feb through May, it gets really busy and everyone gets stretched a little thin. Davids is definitely a good starting point. They have a wide selection at decent price points. I didn't get my dress there but I from being in the environment so long I knew what I did want.

Readers digest version: it's a good place to start. Read local reviews to find the right location. Go when it's not super busy. Bring water and maybe snacks.

I actually posted to vent out my first wedding frustration. When I went to look at dresses I had a great time but when I went to go pick up my dress I actually had a horrifying experience. They were giving a dirty black sample dress. At the end I did get a clean white dress . mixed reviews. This is NYC , Queens. I don't believe they are all bad. I hope you have a good experience though.

I love David's. I had good experiences from finding my dress and so far with alterations.

@Shanynb I did schedule an appointment and I had to "share" a stylist. Needless to say she spent more time with the other bride. She finally helped me with the last 2 dresses. My sister helped me with the first 10.

I went to another DB and pretty much had the store to myself the couple of times I went there. Bought my dress there. All DB are not bad.

I didn't get my dress there, but had my girls get their bridesmaid dresses there. I personally didn't want to, but my girls span 4 different states so it was easiest. Thankfully they all came in and needed minor altering, but as a few have stated the sales people had no idea what they were doing. When I went to go pick them out I had to go and find the dresses and choose my own size. One of my more curvy bridesmaids had to deal with a bit of body shaming in order to get her correct size. The sales guy kept telling her the size she wanted was wrong, but she just got married and ya know, wears dresses so she knows. She ended up with the dress size she originally asked for... I would personally go to a boutique. They carry a lot more unique stock and their sales people are usually very one on one with you which should be the experience you get searching for the wedding dress! Just my opinion though!

I plan to try DB first. I honestly don't care if it's less personal than a boutique - I'm not the type to want to be fawned over while I'm trying on dresses. I don't really wear dresses EVER, pretty much just to weddings, so I'm not super thrilled at trying a bunch on. Plus, at least near me, boutiques are expensive! I'm not spending $2,000 on a dress. It's just not happening.

I won't mention my experience since its a different location. But if you need alterations, I recommend NOT using DB. They over charge. They estimated a hem and taking in under the arms to be about $125. I went to a seamstress a friend recommended and it cost me $75. I also got one bridesmaid dress hemmed and another taken in for $48 total, which would have been $50 each at DB

@JessicaB, right! If someone says they can't imagine spending X on a wedding, it's budget shaming but some can refer to my meal prices n DB dress as something from McDs. It's bullshit n just shows that poster's ignorance.

I had a horrible experience the first time I went (although the consultant was kind and patient). They had zero of the dresses I wanted to try on in stock , it was PACKED and there were no mirrors in the dress rooms! I decided to brave a second, larger location and had a great experience there. I recommend calling to see if they have what you want in stock and go on a weekday, not during prom season or on school vacations if you can.

@lissyloo, that dress is beautiful! I had an ok experience there. Definitely go at a less busy time. My consultant was nice, not pushy, and helped me figure out what silhouette I wanted. They gave me a bottle of water. I did get irritated because the consultant had someone in training help me out of one dress and into another, and the lady was an idiot and left the new dress outside the tiny fitting room. So I basically had to try to hide my naked self from all the strangers sitting right outside while she swung the door wide open to get the dress. I found a dress that I liked at a great price. I did find that the quality of their laces and beading was not what I wanted, but then again, I did not see any dresses like Lissy's. ETA: I did not end up buying my dress there, but I don't see any reason to trash DB.

My worst experiences are at DB. My mother and sister has ok experiences. I'm guessing it's a hit or miss thing

First, I did find my dress at David's Bridal but the initial experience was fair due to the consultant having too many people that she was working with at once. I guess that they warn you in the email that says that but I don't usually read emails fully (my bad). The initial dress fitting the other day was fantastic! Felt like I was the only one in the store and the alterations woman was fabulous! Overall I would say to give it a try, make an appointment and have fun!! Once I did find the dress I have the consultant was great bell ringing and all!!
