Period on Wedding Day

Anna, on May 20, 2017 at 8:37 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

What would be the best possible way(s) to improve the wedding for a bride if she were on her period for her wedding? I still have a few months but though of this as a "what if" sort of situation.

Depends. How are your periods normally? How much pain do you experience and how heavy are they?

I get them every three months with the awesome birth control I have. Not bad, like 4 days normally of medium menstruation. Just think it would be terribly distracting to the experience if that were to happen.

Can you talk to your doctor about adjusting your birth control?

There's aps you can use to track your cycle. I use one called flo. I'm actually due to start the day before my wedding. If you're open to birth control you could talk to your gyno about one that might make your periods less heavy, reduce cramps ect. But I would recommend to do that asap so your body had time to adjust. I have an iud and it had reduced my periods significantly. But the first few months on it I spotted alot. Other than that aleve works really well for cramps, drink plenty of water and eating healthy all help to reduce symptoms.

I just used a regular pad on my wedding day. I had no issues at all, but I don't have a particularly heavy flow. It's normal but not heavy.

@Salgirl-the fertility apps don't really work very well if you are on hormonal birth control. They are meant to track ovulation, you don't ovulate on hormonal birth control.

Just suck it up lol ... I know people don't want their period on their wedding who does ... I probably will be at the end of mine so I'd wear a pad as it's around my last day and my flow will be extra light

I'm on the seasonale pill and I'm basically going to adjust what I need to to not be on my period the week of. We are thinking of babies anyways so I am going to chat with my doctor to see what I need to know to stop taking it after 12 years. I would ideally stop like 2 weeks prior or a little more.

I had mine on my wedding day. I just used a thin pad and a tampon. I secretly stashed a couple of tampons in the bathroom before the reception started. I had no issues.

I'll probably be on mine, I'm due to get it in a few days. If it's towards the end of my period, I'll have a soft cup in and just not worry about it (yay menstrual cups) but I also plan to have courtesy items in the bathrooms so if I need anything else I won't need to lug a bag around.

My periods are fairly regular so I planned around it, but I'd go to your OBGYN and ask if there's some safe thing you can do with BC to skip a period or delay it just once. My friend used to do that when she did competitive swimming

Agree with pp- menstrual cups are awesome- but try it before hand they can take practice to put in place

Definitely adjust the timing if you are on the pill. At my last appointment my Dr asked if I knew i could do that in case the timing conflicted with the wedding. I adjusted to avoid being on my period while on safari - changing tampons behind a tree didn't sound appealing! It was super easy - you just skip the placebos and start the next pack. You might get a little spotting but also might not. I'm not on seasonal, so I just made sure to adjust in an earlier month so I didn't deal with spotting during the time when I was trying to avoid the period.

Not everyone can just "suck it up and deal with it".

I definitely don't want to be running to the bathroom every 2-3 hours to change tampons in a big dress.

My gyno told me how to adjust my BC so that's what ill be doing

Oh God I can't even imagine "dealing with it". Mine are unbearable, which is why I do the seasonale 4 periods a year stuff. No thank you.

I calculated mine a few months back. I've always been regular (every 28 days) so I knew that I would get my period the week before my wedding. I'm getting married next month on the 17th and my period will come on the 9th and will only last three days.

Ugh I'm supposed to get mine on the day of my wedding. Totally blows. And sometimes my cramps are debilitating. But I likely am just gonna have to deal with it. I'll be using pads just because I hate anything else. I'm probably also gonna wear some tight shorts/spanx on top of my underwear so that things stay in place and it gives me another layer of protection. Also thinking of getting a bridal buddy because of this. Thank goodness we'll have lots of alcohol at the reception lol.

I have "normal" periods, I guess. I was on my period during my wedding. I did nothing different. It was fine.

I'm not on birth control, but my periods are relatively regular and have been even more so the past few months since I've been eating extra healthy. There's a very good chance mine will start on our wedding day. I actually talked to my mom about it, and she said (referring mostly to the wedding night), "that sucks. I guess all you can do is warn FH in advance." Lol if it does end up timing itself that way, I probably won't do anything different from normal. I'll just use pads (possibly a heavier one than I'd otherwise need, just so I don't have to change as often) and tights or tight shorts under my dress.

This is bad, but I picked my wedding date around when I wouldn't get my period. Yes, I'm serious lol. We are getting married and then having a week long beach vacation with our family and friends. My BC is right on and never skips a beat.
