PERFECT father/daughter song

Julia, on April 8, 2014 at 12:02 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 31

My dad and I have been discussing what to dance to at my wedding, and are coming up pretty short! I grew up listening to my dad play a lot of Motown, and would love to have a song that represents him. I'm not coming up with much, and although i do love "My Girl", I feel like most weddings I go to that song is played for the father/daughter, and I wanna do something different. Any ideas? Maybe one of you know of a song that would be PERFECT for us Smiley smile

Not sure if these are what you're looking for but here are some songs I found. There's different genres but hope you may like them.

    BUTTERFLY KISSES-BOB CARLISLE

    I LOVED HER FIRST-HEARTLAND

    THROUGH THE YEARS-KENNY ROGERS

    UNFORGETTABLE-NAT KING COLE

THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT-FRANK SINATRA

    WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD-LOUIS ARMSTRONG

    BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME-CELINE DION

    SUNSHINE ON MY SHOULDERS-JOHN DENVER

    ISN'T SHE LOVELY-STEVIE WONDER

JUST THE WAY YOU ARE-BILLY JOEL

    IN MY LIFE-THE BEATLES

I agree with you! It seems like everywhere you look for ideas it's the same 15-20 songs being mentioned. I'm still on the hunt, but these are the ones that I'm currently looking at (I'm also specifically looking for a song from the perspective of the daughter as a 'thank you'):

    Natalie Merchant- Kind and Generous

Celtic Woman- You raise me up

These might not work for you, but good luck in the search! I went through the songs in the WW song suggestions and was surprised at how many were just soooo inappropriate (like, sexual innuendos!).

I know it's the complete opposite, but I went somewhat out of the box, and choose Simple Man by Shinedown to dance with my son.

You could probably look up some ray Charles songs and see where that leads you?

"I'll Be There" by The Jackson 5 (or the Mariah Carey version if you can find one without a live audience)

I don't know if you would be up for something a little more upbeat to be different? I think it would be adorable and memorable to buck the slow dance tradition and have some fun with dad: "You're a Wonderful One" by Marvin Gaye

I was going to suggest "I'll be there", too.

Another more upbeat song-- Stevie Wonder's "isn't she lovely?"

You could also listen to a motown station on pandora to get some ideas.

We are dancing to I Hope You Dance but the Ronan Keating version. This song is very special as my mom even gave me a book about it (and I used to dance) I thought it would be odd though using the Womack version and when I found this version...it was perfect!

I'm struggling with this too. Because I am on a mission to not have a song that has been played or would be assumed to be played during this dance. I'm running out of ideas and I basically live on YouTube everyday trying to find a song!

I am doing Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles. My dad is a huge fan and it reminds me of us when I was little. Maybe think of something that means something to the both of you? Either way, the song you may use it great!
