People inviting themselves to your wedding

Delayva, on July 28, 2019 at 7:41 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 7
So I’m stressing beyond stressing. I told family that I want a relatively small wedding. 20 to 25 tops. Get married at the big cathedral then reserve a room at a fancy restaurant or something. Really intimate. Why? Because money? No. Because I and my man loathe 99% of our families on both sides. So why pay for a people we haven’t spoken to or hate, right? Right. But my family keeps inviting people WITHOUT PERMISSION and some invite themselves! “Oh you’ll invite friends before family?” Yeah, they’re more family than you! I feel like we shouldn’t have to explain ourselves. We’re both first borns so it’s a huge deal to our families that everyone goes. No no no no no. What do we do?

Tell them it is invitation only and anyone without an invitation will be removed

Ugh, I'll never understand why people think self-inviting is ever okay! Kelly had a great suggestion. Be firm that you want a small wedding and don't let anyone make you feel bad for it. I'm closer to friends than most of my family, so I completely sympathize with you Smiley heart

I don’t know if I can do that through the cathedral. Like them helping me to reinforce that but I’ll ask. Hope it works

    Sometimes just the threat works.

Tell them no.. no invite ,no room. When we were planning a wedding near our home we were actually going to hire an off duty cop. I have some bad family issues so he was going to be our body guard/bouncer for like $100 (totally fine with it for me to not see or hear about drama and people that I don’t want there to not come and crash the wedding) we made up a list of names with pictures so someone couldn’t lie. We also had a list of DO NOT LET IN. I wasn’t playing games I was livid people were inviting themselves and telling me their children could come just cause it was their kid (no kids at our wedding)... I had the same issue so now I’m getting married in Hawaii cause I don’t wanna deal with none of them.
If that’s in your budget maybe do that or something like that? Off duty cops are the best!!

I was hoping we wouldn’t have to come to that but they are so toxic. I’m asking for one day of NO drama and it’s sad that I have to pay for peace of mind. We thought about going to Mexico but we already paid for the cathedral and they don’t give the money back lol. I didn’t know the off duty cop thing was an option. I wouldn’t know where to go for that though

It’s SO sad people can’t let you have ONE day that you control. It’s beyond ridiculous and upsetting.
Well you can hire a bouncer pretty easily. If you want an off duty cop though you could go to a local station and ask if anyone does any guarding off-duty or is willing to be a guard (you may have to kind of explain what you mean and what you’d need them for. As in “I am having family issues with people forcing themselves in and they cause drama and trouble. I really need someone to watch) you can normally hire someone for pretty cheap (wether it be a off duty cop or a bouncer it’s normally not bad price wise if you don’t have a long ceremony) you can go to websites like thumbtack to hire a bouncer!
im sorry you’re having to deal with all this
