People asking for plus one

22 days out whew! In the past WEEK I've had 4 people ask me for a plus one. This is so weird to me. These are people who have been in relationships less than a month. I said no but is that mean?

Its not expected. We are giving exactly 0 people a plus one. If they are not our family or friends (or a spouse we have met multiple times in person) they arent invited, period. To the point that I took a college friend off my list (we are still months away from mailing Save the Dates much less invites) because she got engaged and I have never met her FH. If we see and talk to each other so seldom that I dont even know the name of the person she is marrying then we arent close enough anymore to have her there. Every other married friend is being invited with their spouse - but we have at least met that spouse a few times if they are not also a part of our regular social group. But no one who would not have gotten an invite on their own merit is being added. And everyone is being invited by name. The only exception is my sister who lives overseas as I have only met her partner online since she teaches and has long breaks to come visit us but he has never been able to get the time off to come with her and their kids and I have never been able to get to their home. He is invited if he can make it or she can bring any other adult in the family there to help with the 3 kids because they dont speak English and we dont speak their language so they need a second adult they know (but we have met a couple of her other family members from there as they have been the ones to come with her and the kids on past visits). And really in that case the plus one is for the 3, 7, and 13 year olds. And their dad has already been counted in our base guest list (even if he has to tap out for Grandma or Auntie).

This exactly. Its not about their relationships with each other, its about your relationships as bride(s) and/or groom(s) with each individual guest.
