Paying for Alcohol

Kristi, on November 1, 2016 at 3:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I have a question that may seem kind of silly but I wanted to know when you book a wedding at a venue that supplies you with alcohol, do you pay for the kids attending? I have several kids (under the age of 14) that will be attending and I'm wondering how that works?

I would contact the venue and look into the details of the contract.

    Every venue is different.

Check with your venue. In my area, most venues ask for your total guest count and then your "adult" guest count (aka 21 +). But it varies.

Most venues have a different price for 21+, under 21, and babies. Check with your venue!

No you do not. I provided my venue with a list of people who were under the drinking age and they even asked for number of people that would not be drinking at all.

Most venues would not charge for guests under 21

Hi Kristi, welcome to WW! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default icons) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other posters.

I think this would depend on how the venue packages the costs or quotes you - but definitely make sure to ask!

OKD-We had a beverage service fee that was based off our final count which included children. It was $1 pp.

Contact your venue. Here's what mine does:

Kids 12 and under eating off the adult buffet- 1/2 price of adult meal

Kids under 18 eating chicken finger plate- cheap price

Guests under 21 are not counted for pricing the alcohol.

I'm sure most don't count kids. We have an adult food minimum and kids are separate for just about everything.

I'm sure it varies by venue, but our venue does not count kids towards the headcount for alcohol, nor do kids count towards the headcount for our "minimum guests". Obviously they will be counted in the total, and meals will be prepared for them accordingly, but outside of that, we will only pay for the alcohol per adult.

It depends completely on the venue. Check your contract details.

Some of the venues I checked out in my area didn't have a separate rate for anyone under 19. It all depends what is in the contract.

Most venues will not charge the alcohol per person charge on those unable to drink.

Ours is a flat rate per person with no breakdown of how much is food and how much is alcohol.

We are paying $110 for everyone 13+, $55 for everybody 3-12, and everyone under three is free.

Long and short of it all is that it totally depends on the venue.

At one of the venues I looked at, they charged a $2 per person insurance liability fee, whether they were old enough to drink or not. Just something to look into. They may not charge you for the alcohol, but they may charge some other fee that includes children.

Our adult open bar was $52.80. The kids' rate was half-off -$26.40. The total per adult was $186 and change, the 3 teens $160, and the 3 kids (bridal party) were $86 each.

I learned afterward that the flower girl was sipping Shirley Temples all night, so probably drank her $26 worth, but didn't eat her 4-course plated meal, except for the cake. Argh!

We did not invite anyone under our legal drinking age (21), except for my honorary little sister, who was a bridesmaid. My venue charged the full adult rate (including 5 hours of top-shelf open bar) for all guests 13 and up. For those 12 and under, the charge would have been about half the adult rate (the average of 3 entrees was $175 p.p./adults), for ages 3-12. However, if a child guest would have requested an adult entrée, they would have been charged at the full adult rate.

My mother and grandmother had one soda each. It didn't matter.
