Password or no password on your wedding website?

Azulita, on June 25, 2013 at 9:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

Hi everyone,

I am about to send the STDs (super late, I know). The STDs will have our website on them, but I have to decide if I should make the website password protected or not. I have a somewhat high profile job and our wedding will be pretty big... so am not sure if we should password protect the site or not - I see pros and cons to both. I'd love to hear what you did and why. Thanks!

Password. Trying to keep out nosy ass people. Smiley smile Had an acquaintance ask to pay to come to my wedding, so I'm glad I wasn't easy to find. We also had a small wedding, if I'd had a big wedding, I probably wouldn't have cared as much.

Mine will be as I felt it was safer for myself and FH due to our careers.

I had a password on our website until I had 2 people complain about the password not working and when I got on there it worked perfectly fine for me and it was still listed as the same password. So now it's turned off to avoid more of the "your password isn't working" phone calls. Definitely user error on their end lol.

We have a password, but mostly because FH is really private. Plus he works for a government contractor (he's a software engineer) and they're always scaring him with stories about identity theft. I'm not sure who he's trying to keep out, but whatever :p

Password, you don't want people to know when the house will be empty since you'll be gone all day/on your honeymoon.

Password because I don't want nosy people looking through my love story. I also don't want want to be found due to work. I keep a lot of my info as private as possible so clients can't find me.

If we were having one it would have a password - FH is paranoid and I wouldn't want randommers looking at it

If we have one we will also have a password. With my fiance's line of work we like to keep as private as possible.

Hm, if you have a high-profile job, I suggest having a password. You never know who's watching you.

I think we will probably also put a password up, once we have relevant info on the site, because I'm also, ahem, quite "Googleable," and have also had a problem with stalkers in the past.

Thanks. Realistically, there is nothings super secret on there, but I guess there is something I don't like about everyone being able to see what we post.

I was originally going to password protect it, but while my family knows how to use computers, I wasn't sure they would understand the password. I didn't want a lot of emails or phone calls asking.

I totally hadn't even thought about this (since we haven't started our site yet)! After all this talk though, and since Im a state employee that may go fed one of these days, I think a password is a great idea!

So now I'm considering not having a password because of some people not being able computer savvy. However I think I also will not make the website searchable so that way only people who know the web address (which is still pretty simple) will be able access it.

Password. There is a lot of private information about us as a couple, the bridal party, where we are getting married, where we are honeymooning, registered, etc. I’d just rather keep it private from the entire world to see. Not that anyone probably really cares, but there are just so many crazies out there…

No password because I want my guests to look at it and it makes it more difficult for them. I am pretty sure our website doesn't have last names though to help keep it from being found.

Ours is password protected as well because I know of a couple of nosy people who are already trying to get info as to our venue, etc.
