Does anyone else have parosmia that they have to factor in with planning?

Hi Trissa! Are there any specific concerns you have about wedding planning with parosmia?

Your florist should be able to help guide you away from any super pungent flowers, and I'd recommend bringing someone with you to your food and cake tastings!!

Thank you much for your advice, personally i just dont know what to do for food since a good portion of what can be served by the caterers i cant even be around cause the smell is so repulsive, specifically meats, onions, garlic, and chocolate

Maybe you could just have a reception with fruits and desserts— except chocolate…?

Would you be able to tolerate some of the smells if you were outdoors and sat somewhere with a nice breeze?

Maybe put a bunch of Vicks VapoRub up your nostrils or something very minty

Sorry you have to deal with this. It would make life extra challenging

I am staring off with smell training, and i know cold meats are doable for me. I might try something up the nose but i can't do anything mint because I'm allergic. thank you for your advice, its very helpful still.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I would recommend speaking to your florist and caterer to see if you can do multiple tastings and trials to find items that won't make you ill. With so many different flowers and cuisines, I'm hopeful you can find something. Maybe the caterer can make a special meal just for you (like they would for anyone with allergies).

Keep us posted on if you have any luck!

AS of the last few days I have been getting better at dealing with most common smells that have messed with me, and I don't want to get my hopes too high yet but it seems like it is finally getting better after 6 months. I will keep you all updated, and thank you all for giving me the confidence to talk to my vendors about this.

I can't imagine you are the only person going through this right now. With the loss of smell/taste being a HUGE symptom of COVID, this has to be common now, whether or not yours is related to the current pandemic.

Even though you feel you are getting better at dealing with smells, still talk to your vendors and do multiple trials. The last thing you need is to have any set backs on your wedding day.
