Parking for a backyard wedding- we found a solution!

CBW, on December 3, 2016 at 1:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Our wedding is in our back yard, and we are expecting over 200 guests. We have been trying to figure out how to handle parking with that many cars. We live in a small neighborhood and street parking might get ugly with that many cars, so we are looking into using the parking lot of the nearby grade school or high school (both less than 2 miles away), and have been pricing out valet or shuttle services. Holy expensive!!!

Valet service- well over $3000. Limo or van service? close to $2000 for 2 vehicles.

My FH, based on a friends suggestion, contacted a school bus company yesterday. $174 TOTAL for a 55 passenger bus, for the entire evening, including a driver. Sold.

I was just going to suggest school buses if you hadn't thought of it! It's amazing how cheap you can rent them for Smiley smile

    Awesome win!

I can't wait to see your BAM. Backyard weddings can be so beautiful. I can't imagine having a home big enough that had a backyard that could accommodate that many people. Not to mention the budget it takes to rent everything. Bathrooms alone are so expensive. Glad you found a money saver with the bus!

Yep, I was going to say that. I'm a teacher too. You could work it in your decor too. Check out book centerpieces and book cupcake stands.

You need to plan your timing for this one carefully. I find that we are waiting nearly every week for the shuttles to show up. They take longer than anyone predicts to load and unload and you're looking at four trips at the minimum if they all travel full.

If you were my own client, (as either a caterer or an officiant), I'd do cocktail hour first, then the ceremony, then dinner.

We're doing a school bus shuttle too! Literally thousands of dollars cheaper than any other shuttle.
