Paging those that used succulents for decor! (Spazzy?)

Bee, on September 14, 2016 at 8:57 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

How did they turn out? Did you buy them wholesale and plant them in jars yourselves or did you order it completed from a florist? Was it easy to transport? Did guests seem to take it home at the end of the night? I'm considering it as part of the centerpieces. How were the costs in comparison to flowers? I'm getting a few quotes but they're all over the place.

I bought mine in big planters from Home Depot, have propagated them ( fingers crossed) and will use three or four to my centerpiece. You can order them from Home Depot as well and if you're using the smaller ones it comes in a big planter with about eight of the smaller ones all clumped together. They're pretty hardy but I do plan on transporting them with some stuffing from the venue because if they get bumped sometimes the leaves can fall off.

As for pricing when I got a quote for some flowers in a nice vase with some moss and a couple succulents it came out to 175 a table. So that was a yikes moment for me. We bought some pretty candle holders from TJ maxx ( love that place) for 14, will have seeded eucalyptus, some white roses and the succulents. The succulents from Home Depot were about 6 per clump ( they come in those little black plastic planters ) and it has around 6-8 succulents each.

Thanks for all the responses! Spazzy, LOVE your decor. I think your BAM was one of the prettiest inspirations.

The D, Look at TJ Maxx and Marshalls I saw some there but its a pain to try and get them there because they don't let you order its more of a "if its there its there, come back next week". Also yay Erin, how long did it take for yours to start "budding" ( I don't know what to call it). I just watered my soil and put them on it so fingers crossed.

For those of you who ordered from different places, how early did you buy your plants? I'm walking a fine line between "I can do this theyre succulents I can keep them alive" and " oh my gosh I don't want to get them too early I might kill them all" :/

Also Spazzy and CK they look awesome!

This post was bumped so I'm asking @Spazzy - where did you find the terrarium????

Or is that not included in the $20-$25 each centerpiece cost?

I'm trying to do scattered terrariums with string lights inside, and possibly flowers surrounding. Getting quotes from florists now because i'm still early in deciding what I want, but I've been doing some research trying to find affordable terrariums, because I might end up providing them for the florist instead of renting if it ends up being a similar cost (plus I figured they'd be really cute gifts for immediate family and close friends / I selfishly want several for my home as well).

I found a couple shops on etsy that sell them in the little pots for a about $1.50 a piece, and really good reviews, you can try that route. Smiley smile
