Packing and Traveling with wedding dress

Has anyone traveled with their wedding dress? We are flying Frontier Airlines, would love to hear your tips and tricks on what worked well and what didn't as far as how to pack the dress, and travel with it

From what I hear, many flights will allow you to hang your dress in the flight attendant closet up front. Otherwise, you will need to lay it in an overhead bin. Someone recommended placing tissue (I'm guess like gift bag tissue) between the dress and the bag (maybe to protect beading). Bottom line is to not let it travel separate from you. My FMIL actually asked if I could put her navy Macys dress in my garment bag with my dress. Ummm-nooooo. Are you kidding me? No beading or anything fragile on her dress. She could roll it and steam it. I would never take the change of the blue coloring bleeding on my dress or something snagging. Bless her heart. She is really a sweet woman. I asked about shipping my dress to Jamaica but the resort has no secure storage for it so I'm carrying it along with everything else. Someone mentioned something about a case for your veil, headpice, etc so that everything is secure and in one place. Haven't figured that out yet. I'll see how it comes when it arrives.

I haven’t traveled with a wedding dress but I know frontier is one of the budget airlines that makes you pay for a carry on bigger than a purse. So I’m guessing if you have a wedding dress you’d have to put it in a garment bag and pay to put it in the overhead bin.

Agreed with PP - Frontier is going to charge you extra. I know Southwest doesn’t have a closet to hang the dress in, but most stewardesses will help you out if you tell them that it’s your wedding dress as you board the plane.

How are you carrying it? Please let me know how it goes! I’m also flying JetBlue but was considering putting it in a suitcase.

I am flying with mine this upcoming weekend and used tissue to help keep the shape of the bodice and then rolled the skirt toward the bodice and put it in my carry on suitcase. I put my veil in a plastic bag with some extra air in it and just gently folded the skirt around that. You just need to be careful not to bend any boning or shaped portions of the dress. It will need a good steaming once I get there - but at least I won’t be worried about where it’s going to go on the plane!

If you have space in an large suitcase, I would gently fold it in half and lay it in there. Frontier loves to charge for bags and extras.

I did! I left it in the garment bag and folded it into a carry on bag by itself. Then I found a dry cleaners at my destination to steam it! It looks great and is ready to go for Saturday
