P90x/30 Day Shred/Insanity/Etc. -- Which to Choose?

L♥J, on March 14, 2011 at 5:16 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 17

Hey ladies -- I just wanted some insight on p90x/30 day shred/insanity and/or other workout DVDs that you've used. I've already lost the bulk of my weight (over 50lbs!) but I'm looking to tone up for the wedding. I have a gym membership but wanted to add an additional workout regime that I can do at home. Which one do you recommend? Thank you! Smiley smile

I'm starting the 30 day shred today!! I picked it because its a 20 minute workout. I don't have alot of time to workout but that 20 minutes should work. I would start with that. If you find it not quite right, you will be out $12 (amazon)rather than alot more that you would be paying for p90x.

My fiance got P90x for Chrsitmas. I think the work outs are too long, personally. I've heard insanity is good as it's a cardio work out as opposed to a muscle building work out. & I know nothing about 30 day shred. Good luck! : )

I'm doing 30 day shred and it kicked my butt at first. Now, I'm getting used to it and its not so bad. It is good for toning and the 20 minutes goes by fast.

I did P90X last year and lost 60lbs. It's great for toning since it's not just cardio, it's also weight training. I'm doing Insanity now and it is definitely insane. I've noticed more muscle definition but I think it's because I'm losing fat from all of the cardio and the muscles I built doing P90X are more noticeable.

I will say that both workouts require dedication and 45-90 minutes 6 days a week, so if you are looking for something with less of a time commitment then I would look into 30 Day Shred.

I'm doing both the P90X (lean routine) and 30 Day Shred. I think P90X is the better of the two but you need to have at least an hour a day to dedicate to it. The Shred while great is not good for every day because of the stress on the joints and limited warm-up/cool-down. I would do that every other day so as to prevent injury.

Have you looked into a website called sparkpeople.com? its not a loose weight fast kind of thing but more of a way to track your eating and fitness habits as well as get support from thousands of other members with similar start and end goals. its very well organized fun and easy to navigate. oh! the best part about it? its completely free.

i reccomend it to everyone i know, my mom, aunt best friend..etc. theres forums and teams you can join and many are groups of people who are trying out the popular programs like jilian michaels, p90x and many more.

Congrats on your weight loss! I'm doing Insanity and it is AMAZING! But just a warning, they are not joking when they say it is the hardest workout on DVD. I am a week into the second month and have seen incredible results! And I didn't bulk up in terms on inches (I lost inches, but have gained weight...and a 6-pack!). I would highly recommend it!

P90X is an awesome program that combines strength training and card routines. If you can dedicate 1 to 1 1/2 hours a day 6 days a week then P90X is for you! if you are a little more pressed for time then 30 day shred is good because it's only 20 minutes or so. I haven't done insanity but from what I hear it's 45 mins of cardio. My step daughter says her total body workout by Jackie Warner is good too and about 40 mins

P 90x and Insanity will deffinetly give you that toned affect. The workouts are SUPER hard, but you that way you know they are working. If your will to spend the money to buy them, remember, with P90x its a 90 day workout and you have to buy weights and other tools for the workout. With Insanity you use your own body weight and its a 60 day workout, and the workouts are a little more intense. We are gonna be doing Insanity this summer to get toned up, and Im soo excited! Congrats on the weight loss, and good luck with your search!

Power Sculpt and Cardio Max ... both Biggest Loser DVDs are amazing but you do need to be able to commit an hour a day ... The 30-day shred is great because of the short 20-min workouts ... I was so in the game of working out and exercising and now I've kind of fallen off the bandwagon ... but I need to get back up and ride again because I will be starting new birth control pills whenever I get my next period and last time I packed on the pounds ... though I'm about 95% positive it wasn't the pill that packed on all the pounds, maybe just 10-15, it was more me just eating to eat ... and drinking soda all the time ... LOL

Congrats on the weight loss!! I have done a few p90x work outs with a friend who has the set, some I felt more than others. I couldn't justify the cost when I have a wonderful gym that is 100% free and tons of classes that fit my schedule.

I agree with a P.P. who suggested trying 30 day Shred first because it's just $12. If FH or friends are also interested in joining you for work outs and you have the time to do the work outs + recovery + shower... maybe splurge for p90x. It was fun with company!

Thanks all for your input! I bought the 30 Day Shred yesterday (only $8 on amazon, whoohoo!) and going to try that out. I also use FitClick.com for my diet/food tracking. It's great because they have "diet meal plan options" to choose from. I'm doing the carb reduction diet right now. It's not at all like an Atkins -- you get to eat 150g of carbs! -- and really helps to balance meals.

I wrote a blog about it if you'd like to read more info if you're interested!

Here's the link to my blog: http://laurwithatwist.wordpress.com/2011/03/10/diet-meal-planning-is-just-a-click-away/

Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress! I have the 30 day shred and really like it. I am realistic and don't think there's any way I can committ one hour to the P90X with my crazy work schedule and traveling, etc.

I think it depends on your ultimate goal, I have heard/seen P90X go wonders for those wanting to lose weight fast if you have the drive to stick with it. I only wanted to lose a few pounds and tone I didn't stick to it completely (didn't do it everyday) but it really worked for me. Know that at the first of every level it will kick your butt and seem impossible but stick with it, when you are sore the next day make sure you still do it because it will help with the soreness. I have finally conquered level 3 and know have added some more weights and cardio to my workout to help boost it.

If you are thinking about doing something after your are done with the 30 day shred, P90X is great for toning. whereas Insanity is good for cutting weight/fat. It builds muscle too...just not as much as P90X does. Congrats on the weight loss! That is a great accopmlishment already.
