ALC, on September 19, 2011 at 12:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Does anyone have a good example for an email to send to guests who still have not sent the RSVP. I keep typing it but b/c I am so irritated it comes across REALLY mean Smiley smile

Any advice is much appreciated

I just said "Hello John, I noticed I haven't gotten your RSVP yet. I am working on seating charts so I was wondering if you and Julie were going to make it. I really hope you can come. Please let me know! Thanks!"

How many people haven't RSVP'd yet? It might just make more sense to just call the stragglers. How long has it been since your RSVP date passed?

For me, my family is MISERABLE at responding to email. I'm just better off calling them instead of emailing.

Some of my older relatives don't even know what email is, nevermind sending a message.

(My grandmother referred to the internet the other day as the "great world wide web")

Everyone is different though! I'd just stress that your venue wants your seating chart and that you need to know.

    We called our non-RSVP's directly.

It's easier to change your tone than to try and make the tone sound real via email.

But I was also lucky with only 5 people who did not RSVP.

I had over 160 non-responses the day after my deadline. There was no calling everyone, though I did personalize each email.

My cousin ended up texting people too so they wouldn't feel uncomfortable and not put on the spot. and if they wanted to reply no, it was much easier for them to say no.

I was pretty bitchy in my email, I don't care. All I said was, Hello All, if you haven't done so, please return RSVP even if it's a "no" we'd like to keep them as mementos, Love

I know some people were waiting till the last minute because they were trying to make it. Others, I think are just rude.

We only have 42 out of 182 so its not terrible. We will be calling some of our older guests and family but the friends and coworkers will be via email. The deadline just passed on Friday so I didnt want to be too harsh since its the first reach out. Also - we had 3 people that never received their invite (snail mail - blah) so I would hate to be bitchy to someone that has no idea. They dont respond to this though and yeah I will go into bitch mode Smiley smile If there is one thing I have learned in all of this - if someone takes the time to give you 4 RSVP options and 3 months to do so - you freaking do it before the deadline!!!

We posted the following on our secret "Wedding Guests" facebook group. My mom and FMIL made calls to stragglers as well, but we got quite a few responses from these posts on FB.

We posted this with about a week left:

Hi All! We just wanted to send out a reminder that our RSVP deadline is getting close. If you haven't already, be sure to send back your response card or RSVP on our website (website here) It is really important that we get an accurate count so that we can be sure to have enough chairs and food for everyone. Thanks! Smiley smile Love, Chelsea and Tim

    And this on the deadline:

***REMINDER*** Today is the RSVP deadline for our wedding. We need to give our final counts to the hall to make sure we have enough seats and food for everyone. Please, please, please send back your response card or RSVP online at (website here) Thanks!! Love, Tim and Chelsea

    Cont.

A few days later, we posted this one. Its a little more urgent, but still polite.

Thank you to those of you who have already sent us your RSVP. We are still waiting on responses from a few people. We will be giving our final number to our hall at the end of the week. If we haven't heard from you by the end of the day on Sept 8, we will unfortunately have to assume that you won't be able to make it. It is very important that we hear back from everyone so we can be sure to have enough seats and food. If you haven't done so already, please visit our wedding website (website), or call Chelsea ###-#### or Tim ###-#### to let us know if you will be able to make it. Thanks! Hope to see you all soon!
