Outside Weddings

Alyssa, on February 20, 2022 at 3:38 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 6

Has anyone else done an outside summer wedding? I'm not talking about venues or anything, I mean like a real outside wedding. My fiancée and I are fed up with looking for a venue that incorporates everything we want without spending $8,000 alone just to rent it. We had the idea to have our wedding at her family camp in the wide open field, but I want it to be classy at the same time. If we do something like that, I'm afraid that we won't pull it off the way that I envision it. I want to rent one of those giant tents and have the center poles wrapped with greenery for our reception. I want those gorgeous rustic barrels at different places throughout the field with some amazing flower decor on them for our ceremony. We have found amazing places to rent all of these things and we know that there are ways to have an awesome outside wedding without a venue and without making things look cheap and tacky. Is having everything that we want worth the risk of us not getting a venue? If so... What are some essentials of an outside wedding to make things run smoother?

I am not doing a summer wedding anymore because of the heat, so if you are set on doing a summer wedding at a camp site please make sure you have fans/cooling system something to make sure your guest aren't over heating. It can be worth the risk and be just as beautiful. Since I live in Texas, for us it's not worth the risk because it could rain at any point and mother nature would laugh and say "okay I'm done" as soon as the ceremony is over just to start up again as guest are about to leave. Just know that there are more elements you have to think about if you plan for an outdoor wedding especially at a camp site.

I’m doing an outside wedding at my parents home which is over an acre of land and we found a way to make it classy even though it’s in the backyard.. Were using a ton of lights and rustic farm tables. We’re going to have our guest seated around the pool And putting floating lights in the pool. Outside Weddings 1Outside Weddings 2

We’re having an outside wedding in June. Weather is certainly a risk so we are renting large tents to protect against rain and sun. Keep in mind that you may want a less heavy, hot wedding dress. I’m going to have mine cut to floor length rather than having it drag behind me and I chose a material that felt lighter. Also keep in mind that you will need to keep the food cold/hot until it’s ready to be served so it doesn’t spoil. It is doable but there will be extra costs you don’t think of.

Your vision sounds lovely! If you haven't already, make a list of rentals (and the prices) you would need and then compare with outdoor venues. The tents you are talking about are quite pricey. Then don't forget you need to rent chairs for the ceremony and then tables/chairs for the reception, and portable bar and portable toilets (plus delivery fees) as well as making sure there are electrical outlets for DJ, fans, etc. If its an evening wedding, you would need lighting. If you want dancing, where would that be? You would also need to have a caterer bring in plates, glassware, utensils, linens.

My friend had a wedding in the yard and it was a very cool wedding! (probably one of the best I've been to)

We are doing ours on the beach so yes we are scared of the weather but as long as you prepare ahead of time for rain/ heat/ etc. Also, as PP said, make a list of all the things you will need to rent, because those things add up quick!
