Outside wedding temperature

abegaile, on May 11, 2017 at 2:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

Now that I'm less than a month out, I am checking the weather for our venue location frequently. I know that weather is unpredictable, but I think we are looking at our wedding day being between 69-73F, mostly sunny. Is this an ok temperature to have people outside? Ceremony is outside surrounded by trees (so decently shaded), dinner is under a tent, and the catered food and later on dancing is in a climate controlled cabana building. Outside once the sun goes down there are fire pits to keep the area near the bar warm. To me, 70 degrees is perfect and comfortable, but I just want others opinions. Thanks!

I think it sounds lovely. 69 could be a little chilly but nothing a wrap or jacket couldn't take care of. If it was really windy or overcast that could be a concern. I am confused by what you said about dinner, then catered food. Is the entire meal in the climate controlled cabana?

Our ceremony is outside, and I'm expecting it'll be over 80-85. It's not a decision I would make again, but here we are. I'm hoping it doesn't storm.

That sounds lovely to me. I always bring something to put on if I get chilly so it wouldn't be an issue for me if it was on the cooler side of that range.

The bigger problem (I think) is if it is too warm. It was supposed to be 83* for my outdoor ceremony, but it ended up being perfect at 78*. I had plans for if it was going to be too hot, but luckily it turned out perfect.

@Heather, I read it as the cabana would be the prep area for the catered food and then after dinner it would become where they dance. But correct me if I'm wrong OP

The buffet is set up in the cabana, but the tables that everyone is sitting at will be set up under the tent.

    ETA: LB is correct!

That temperature is fine, but you should have an indoor back-up in case of rain. Also, it's way too early for an accurate forecast.

AL you don't have an indoor backup??????

I think that sounds perfect, as long as it doesn't rain!

It's the PNW, we have had a rain back up plan from day one. We actually didn't go with my dream venue because when I asked what their rain back up plan was, they just shrugged their shoulders like it never rains in Washington.

@alc I don't have a backup plan either, but you know what, it will be okay! There are worse things than a storm or rain on your day. We are fortunate because our guest list is small enough if we need to move under a gazebo. We are getting married in a rose garden and we aren't allowed to bring tents in.

That sounds perfect! We are having a tented wedding as well and I am hoping for a little cooler of a day...I know once everyone is dancing and drinking they will be warm and 60-70 degree fresh air sounds refreshing to me!

Those temps sound great to me! Keep in mind that the weather really doesnt get accurate...or even fairly accurate until about 3 days before...dont stress yourself out and have an indoor backup plan just in case

Totally understand it not being accurate. Just looking at what it is telling me now and the averages for the day puts it around that temperature and I wanted to make sure I didn't need to scramble to rent heaters. And my parents have an identical white tent that they set up by their pool for BBQ's and parties that they will be bringing. If it rains, we will set it up for the ceremony. We have the venue from Friday morning to Monday morning, so lots of time to get it set up/taken down.
