Outside Ceremony - Who plays the music??

OG FMP, on December 17, 2014 at 11:13 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 36

Our Ceremony will be outside a Country Club and I want music to walk down the aisle with but how or who plays the music?? My DJ will be there for the reception only.

All I can picture is someone with a small boom-box hiding behind the last row of chairs, kinda peeking out and pressing "pause" when i get to my FH LOL HELP!

You can hire a musician, vocalist, whatever you like.

I had originally planned on a violinist, however, that fell through and our nephew ended up using his wireless speaker to play the music (and very on cue might I add), so it worked out. Always have a back up plan!

Sometimes you can hire your DJ to come early and play music for the ceremony. I bet your country club has a way to pipe the music outside if you're close to the building. Otherwise, hire a soloist or a string trio?

Hahaha! oh that would be hilarious, but not at all hilarious at the same time... Our wedding is outdoors, but I'm like... 99% sure our dj will play the music since we're having a short ceremony. Damn. I should probably ask my venue!

@Mrs.Mason - There's a special song i want to walk down the aisle to so I need to maybe steal your idea about the wireless speakers.

@Lauren: Great question to ask my venue, thanks.

@AlexisM082 - LOL you get my sense of humor!

My DJ is also doing the music for my ceremony. He will just set up inside the venue, and put speakers outside so he can play the music there, but not have to set up/break down twice.

We hired a string duo for the ceremony. You can see if your DJ would be willing to set up and play during the ceremony as well.

Ceremony is at 4 and reception ends at 11 - I really don't want the DJ playing music for that long. He's a friend who's cutting us a great deal and i don't want to take advantage of his services.

We are having family and friends that can sing very well to do our ceremony music along with a friend on the saxophone. We will also have a PA system for them as well.

Definitely talk to your venue. I used to work at a country club that did a lot of weddings and we had a sound system for the ceremony location. One of the staff members would just be inside where the set-up was and press play. Yours likely has one as well, and you can either hook up your iPhone or bring in a flash drive or something.

I hired a string quartet to play during the ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner. Then a DJ will take over afterwards for party music.

Definitely ask your venue what people usually do and that will give you an idea.

Your DJ - If you can afford to have them there to assist during the ceremony AND reception...do it.

We are getting married in the orchards at this big estate we rented for the day, our venue offered us use of an outdoor sound system.

We are using that for us/the officiant, and then are also having a cello/keyboard couple play compliments of my FMIL. We are really big into the Piano Guys.

I think you definitely should talk to your venue they should be able to help with this.

I hope they do, but if not, maybe get a wireless bluetooth speaker (or set). I am doing that, and I found some at Target and Walmart for $40-50 with good reviews. I will buy them and test them out probably February or March. Ours is at a public park, and we're only doing a small intimate ceremony that day. No reception until a month later. I really didn't feel like paying a DJ for a 15-20 minute ceremony.
