Outside Ceremony - Who plays the music??

Our DJ is playing the ceremony music, he has another smaller portable unit for that.

I'm using my DJ to pay it all. I paid for the extra time.

Your DJ MIGHT be able to mic your officiant in addition to supplying music for the ceremony.

My DJ got there early in the day to set up everything for the reception and said he could do the ceremony music too...he had some portable things that he brought outside that worked perfectly

Our DJ is putting a small setup outside for the ceremony. But before I knew that was an option I was thinking of a portable speaker and iPod. If you do that, just make sure you pick someone you can trust not to get distracted. An usher, family member, very close friend.

You can also look into an instrumental group.

Similar venue (outside at a golf club), and we hired a vocalist and a pianist. You can hire the DJ to come an hour early. We are having the DJ there during the ceremony to provide the microphones, as well as be the back-up just in case!

Valarie, ask the person to fade out the music instead of just stopping it mid-note.

I had my DJ play the music but if yours won't be there, you can always use an iPod or hire musicians.

That's pretty much what our DJ did-- in fact, I forgot to tell him how many were in the BP, so he let the music play longer than necessary, and *I* was the one peeking out from the back thinking, "Um... when's *my* music?" really does NOT matter as long as you make it to the front to get married!

I have totally been at the wedding where someone was nodded at and some family friend started playing the boom box. It can work or it can be rough. Updated world of thing Ipad/cell phone/laptop could be used to play music too if you had some speakers.

Or you could hire a live singer or someone else to play music.

Pretty much all of my couples either have acoustic/classic music (string trio, guitar, pianist) or their dj sets up a little system outside. You will also need sound for the officiant, so your dj should be taking care of that too, if your officiant does not.
