Outdoor Wedding (with no shelter from the rain)

Trisha, on January 20, 2021 at 7:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
Our wedding is in September and we’ll have no shelter from the rain. We live in a very dry state, especially this year so far, but you never know. For those of you also planning on rain solutions, how are you putting yourselves at ease with the idea of spending thousands of dollars on something you may not (ideally) even use??

Does your venue have any back up options? A lot of the times venues might have a contingency plan that might not cost you any more

No, unfortunately it’s not a real venue. It’s a large group campground out in the woods.

We rented a huge tent and paid for beautiful lighting and draping throughout. Couldn’t risk it, especially being in a wetter state!

How many guests will you have? I’ve seen some brides on this forum talk about renting cute event/wedding tents from party rental companies or purchasing them from Amazon. Depending on your guest count and the size you may need, they may not be too expensive.

Guests we’re not certain on but there’s a defined picnic area of 40x40 that we’d need to cover.

That’s definitely the safest option to go with it’s just so hard knowing that my state only gets less than an inch of rain on average in September

You may want to consider renting one of the large tents.

If that is the case, I don't see the need to worry about rain. A shade covering is great but I wouldn't stress over something that may never happen and spend unnecessary money.

I would rent tents. Whether it rains or not, it will be nice for guests to have a shaded area or covered area to sit in. I don't consider that a waste of money.

Well the seating area is naturally shaded by trees by noon so heat or direct sunlight isn’t an issue. Just a matter of cover from unlikely rain, that’s why it feels like a waste of money.

In that case, skip the tent and save your money. If there is normally less than an inch all year, you honestly will not be in any danger of freak weather.

Agreed. Having shelter from the shade is a plus. It also adds some ambiance to the space. Our tent had lights installed along the inside, and it was so beautiful once it got dark. As we got closer to our date, we ended up adding “just in case” items like this (like walls for the tent, in case it got too cold) and the peace of mind was worth the cost alone.
