Outdoor Wedding: Maryland- Help!

Eryn & Steve, on July 15, 2014 at 9:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

We are looking for places to do an out door wedding ceremony and either an outside tented reception or a reception indoors with a beautiful view.

Based on pricing and availability for 2015, the venues we are interested in are either pushing late march-mid April, Early in sept or late October/Early November.

We are currently interested in three venues- one in Columbia Maryland, one in Frederick Maryland and a bay-front venue in Pasadena Maryland.

Can anyone give me some insight to what their weather was like for an outdoor wedding in any of these locations during those times of the year? We are trying to decide between the pros and cons of the possible... "too hot, too cold, nothing blooming, pretty fall colors, etc."

Our ideal would be late Sept/Early October but we haven't found a Venue we like with dates available in that time span. Recommendations on Venues would be helpful also!

Ahh! Please Help!!

I'm guessing you're not from Maryland (?) It is a pretty small state, so the weather in all of those places will be pretty similar. In terms of an outdoor ceremony, early September is probably your best bet. It will still be summer, so the foliage will still be green. March will likely still be too cold for an outdoor wedding, April too rainy, and then October/November will be also be too cold.

Were getting married at the Antrim 1844 Oct 3rd 2015. They have an awesome rose garden and the reception hall is what sold me. Its HUUUUGE! The thing I found about MD is everything is so expensive. My original budget was totally unrealistic, so in order to get the things I wanted, I have had to up my budget.

As for the weather, Frederick MD is beautiful that time of year. Sept can still be a bit hot, but not as bad as July/August. The trees dont turn until mid-late october.

Just keep an open mind when you go to these places. My top choice was Strong Mansion before I realized I would have to plan EVERYTHING and they have really strict rules on the house. Kthanks but no thanks. But they have a tent set up and it really is a gorgeous venue.

    Good luck fellow MD bride!

We are getting married at Oxon Hill Manor near National Harbor. It has both the outdoor space (garden area and patio) and indoor space. You can tent the patio area if you so desire. The outdoor space overlooks the water and National Harbor. It's very pretty. If you are a resident of PG County you get a lower rental fee. The only issue is that you have to book fast. RIght now they are already into their bookings for October 2015. They have a calendar where you can see the current availability.

    Good luck to you.

We got married in Bel-Air (HarCo) at The Liriodendron. We got married mid June and the weather was gorgeous. There is indoor, outdoor options if you have a guest list of less than 120 ( we 80ppl and there was ample room). There are gorgeous gardens and a beautiful mansion with awesome architecture.

If you want something on the Water, Swan Harbor is nice, but it gets pricey. So is Eastern Yacht Club.

I've been to weddings at both Antrim 1844 and Strong Mansion-- both are beautiful venues, but I agree that Antrim would be the better choice-- they are more flexible and it really feels like you can explore the grounds. Strong Mansion is a bit a of a tease-- its a beautiful, huge house, but guests are limited to just a designated fraction of it. Also, Antrim is probably a bit more accessible to hotels, etc-- Strong Mansion is kind of in the middle of nowhere.

Thank you for the feedback! Yes, my fiancé and I are both from Maryland. We are just a bit confused about what to do. Late September/Early October is what has always been our ideal because of the beautiful weather that time of year.

Our top Venues do not have dates available in that ideal window of time (late sept-early october). So we are trying to get some feed back on what other people have experienced when they planned their outdoor weddings. We all know Maryland weather is all over the place and is difficult to predict. We just want to make the most educated decision in hopes of the best weather and scenery.

The Venues are trying to be convincing that the dates they still have available are also beautiful and ideal. We have heard it's a little cooler in Frederick and that the venue on the bay can be a little cooler because of the breeze off of the water.

Keep in mind weather is super unpredictable. It's not worth putting so much thought into it (no offense, weather is just really crazy). Pick what time of year you like and go with that. You can look at farmer almanacs and weather patterns until you're blue in the face, but it is not anything you can control!

I will defintely look into the Venues you guys mentioned above! Thank you!!

The Venues we are currently considering are:

Stone Manor Country Club - Frederick, Md

Belmont Country Club - Columbia, Md

Celebrations at the Bay - Pasadena, Md

Has anyone been to or had a wedding at any of these locations?

I personally would go with the Pasadena venue in earlier spring/ summer to September. October would probably be a bit too chilly with the breeze.

Frederick can be cooler but overall it depends on how high up the mountains you go. Antrim is in the Catoctin Mountains and we will be taking a trip out there the weekend of our wedding to see what it will hopefully feel like a year from now.

The Glenview Manor in Columbia is beautiful but my friend who is also getting married narrowed that one out since the cost of tenting would be too expensive and the house didnt have a large enough ballroom to keep everyone together for dinner/dancing.

Celebrations on the bay is a beautiful venue. My friend got married there on a Friday night and it was a great time. It was July so it was really hot outside so mostly everyone hung out in the main area, but it got cramped since they restricted access to the main reception hall during that time. Beatiful views though.

My friend is getting married next year at the Cheseapeake Beach Bay Club- not gonna lie, im totally jealous of the rooftop bar. Also beautiful view.

Stone Manor is nice, but I have only seen it in pictures.
