outdoor wedding in oct?

msalmostchevere, on August 27, 2014 at 1:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

My fiancé and I will be engage for 2 years this oct. somehow he decided he wanted to move the wedding up to 2 months! I always wanted a outdoor wedding, I was wondering what's your take on a park wedding in late October? I will have shawls on the flower girls, who will walk down for one minute and who then will be seated with a relative. I am also thinking about giving out blankets to the guests, if it is breezy out. *PS* we never planned a wedding when we first got engaged, I did sketch things out but haven't reserve a venue and etc.! Since I need a year in advance to book a venue my only option is to push back the date, have it at a hall, park, or courthouse.

If it's just for the ceremony and you have money in your budget for blankets for guests, it might not be too bad, it depends on how the weather in your area is at that time if year. It might be a cute idea to do a hot chocolate or some kind of warm drink to serve for the guests. Maybe set up a table with those things that people store coffee in to keep it hot. And set up a little make your own hot chocolate station. It could be really cute, keep people warm. Especially if you only do the ceremony outside. Maybe you could find a place to do an indoor reception on an off day of the week like friday or sunday, that way people stay warm afterwards.

I was a BM in a wedding in Ottawa, ON (Canada) on the second weekend of October last year and it was pretty hot out actually. You're pretty close to there so you might not even need blankets.

Depends on how the weather is...could be awesome and lovely or super crazy chilly (also depends on where you live)..if in the cold you might consider outside heat lamps.

Depends on your wedding location...October in Florida could be nice while October in Michigan could have 2" of snow in the forecast.

It looks like you're in NJ??? October in the North East can be pretty unpredictable (remember that year we got SNOW?!!?) While you *may* be okay in case of bad weather, if you don't have a backup plan, I would consider waiting.

A girl I used to know was supposed to be married outside in a park, but when it started raining, had to move there ceremony under a covered bridge that was right there. If you could find something like that, it would be perfect!

Blankets are very luxurious and expensive to provide! If its in your budget then do it. Otherwise is be clear to guests to wear a jacket for the ceremony but they will have a place to leave it during the reception

I remember as a kid in SE PA having to wear a winter coat under my Halloween costume at least one year. Early Oct. might be OK, but I think late Oct. would be quite iffy.

I'm trying to have an Oct. wedding outside in CT on 10/18! October in Connecticut can go either way - either snow or a heatwave. Luckily, I have an indoor Plan B in case of extreme weather. Also, we are keeping our ceremony relatively short (under 30 mins) so that in case of brisk weather, people aren't totally freezing.

My wedding is October 11 in Houston, Texas, and we are doing an outdoor wedding. With Texas in October, it can either be raining, hot, or cold...there never seems to be consistency, so we have a back-up plan in case of each.

    1) Rain - My venue has a little covered patio with a fireplace that we can use in case it is raining, but it will only fit about 1/2 of the guest list...others would have to stand around the patio and risk getting wet. If it looks like it is going to rain, though, we're planning on going to the dollar store to get some umbrellas that people can use. (We confirmed with the store already that they always have these in stock at that time)

    2) Hot - If it's hot, we are planning making little fans that have some word games on it that they can do while waiting for the ceremony to start. They are really easy to DIY and pretty inexpensive if you shop for good prices.

    3) Cold - We will rent heating lamps from our local hardware store..they are more expensive, but we felt like that would be more bang for our buck than trying to buy cheap blankets that won't really warm up our guests.

I am having an outdoor wedding and reception on October 25th. Since I live in South Carolina it could be 90 or it could be 40... It's a bit of a gamble, but if it is cold we will have blankets and heaters.

My wedding is October 11 in Wisconsin. It's hard to say what the weather will bring. We found a great botanical garden with a 3 seasons gazebo. If it's warm- open the windows. If its cold or raining- keep them closed. The best of all worlds!

As a guest I would be very leery about attending an outdoor wedding in the Northeast at the end of October. I grew up in NJ and while it's unlikely there will be snow (yes it happened last year, who knows what will happen this year) it will still be cold for guests.. and what about you and your bridesmaids? Unless you ad your BMs all run hot, I would think you'd all be cold too!

I am having an indoor ceremony and an outdoor reception on October 11th, so I am hoping that everything will work out because I however don't have a plan B so I am really counting on the weather to be nice!

One word...Snowtober. It might be gorgeous; it might be freezing. The best plan is an outdoor space with an indoor option. No one....NO ONE wants to come to your wedding if it's 45 degrees out and be surprised by the fact that it's outside.
