Move it to October? lol - j/k!

I don't live in TX - I'm in Missouri and that first week of September in Missouri is usually still 90+ weather. I know it's hotter than that in TX. Would it be possible to put it at the end of September? (I'm not sure if TX has any kind of "rainy" season or not.)

I think it is rainy season now actually :-/ its been cloudy and muggy for the past couple of weeks.

I was thinking an early morning ceremony + brunch reception on Labor Day weekend. I do have a back up plan though.

Gah! Is it worth the risk!?!?

Here in DC it is still very hot in September.

If you must do an outdoor wedding, make sure you have a tent and plenty of fans blowing. And keep the ceremony out of the sun and offer plenty of seating, or your older relatives and preggos will be keeling over!

The park we are planning on having it in is completely shaded and we will be having the reception under a pavillion.

The reason we are having it early Sept. is because its right before college starts for my brother, labor day weekend, and we are planning on moving to a different state right after.

The average weather for September has been less than 95 degrees at the highest for the past 10 years, but 2011 was 100 degrees, so you never know...

Yeah - I've noticed it's been getting warmer the past couple of years. The date we picked the average 2 years ago was 75 degrees, but the past 2 years it has been 90+ on our wedding date. So I'm hoping that it will not do that again in 2013!

I think if you wanted to risk the wedding outside that wouldn't be so bad - but to have the reception outside - if it's a long one - that might be brutal. I know you said something about a morning wedding, but if the reception lasts into the afternoon when the heat is at its peak - YIKES. What about an evening ceremony? That might work a little better maybe?

I think it's workable, but I'm not Texan.

Just make sure you have bottled water available for the ceremony (maybe put it out in some cute ice buckets), and have plenty of seats. And, of course, start on time! I went to a wedding where not only did I sit in the sun in hot weather with no water, the couple started almost 30 minutes late. So by the time I got there, found a spot, waited for the couple, and watched the ceremony, I'd be in the sun on top of a hill for over an hour. I was not a happy camper.

Are you getting married in the Dallas area or in Houston?

As a native Texan, I STRONGLY suggest not having an outdoor wedding in early September. It may be "tolerable", but do you really want to have to tolerate the weather and heat on your wedding day? Dallas may be a little better b/c you won't have to deal with coastal humidity.

@Michele - I am getting married in the Dallas area. Short 20 minute early morning ceremony, with plenty of cold drinks and refreshments available beforehand. I feel like if the Aggies coming can stand up for 3+ hours for a football game under the blazing sun, they can sit and relax for 20 minutes in the shade.

@Shannon - I definitely plan on having plenty of cold drinks on hand. The whole park is totally shaded by trees and I am a very punctual person!

@Mama - Yea this global warming/ texas drought thing is no joke :-/ I was thinking that the reception starts at 10 am, with guests free to leave or stay and play games, dance, etc.

May I also suggest wedding program fans/favors - kill 2 birds with 1 stone?

Yeah, I know how those Aggies are. Gig 'em!

If you have an outdoor wedding and its 90+ degrees be prepared for your guests to leave early.

Yes, count on it being hot. I'm in south Texas, so it may be a little cooler where you are, though. It's almost November and it's still hitting 90 here during the day.

Is there an indoor location nearby where you can have the reception? We just did a wedding at the end of September where the ceremony was in a park and the reception was right next door in an art museum. It was a beautiful ceremony, but it was HOT.

We're doing outdoors in Texas in JULY! 20 minute ceremony though, and indoor reception. Obviously, it is at night.

@ Stacy - it will probably still be hot at night in july though! But i'm sure it will be lovely. Don't forget the bug spray!

@Christina - I was hoping not to have to decorate/pay for two separate places

@KM - I doubt the guests will leave early, its not a formal wedding that will drag on. Short and sweet

Uh no. For outdoor in September

    Hurricanes are anissue in sept.

your brother must not go to school in Texas, cause most of them start in mid/ late August. College and otherwise.

I hate being hot and sweaty at a weding and if obky if the wedding and the reception is inside the your guest will remember the wedding and not the reception.

Edited cause I am jet lagged in London

Don't do it! Tents, fans, and shade might cut it in 80 degree weather at the beach, but NOT in 90+ weather, especially when you and your guests will be dressed up. Do you want to sweat through your gown? D1 has a point about hurricane season-- most major storms are in late Aug through September. I think you'll all be more comfortable at an indoor venue.

I live in HOTlanta Smiley smile and am doing an outside ceremony in July but my ceremony doesn't start until 7:00 pm so maybe you can do it later and change it to a night under the stars or something funky! Smiley smile

@D1 - fortunately hurricanes aren't an issue in dallas. And yes, my brother will be coming back from out of the country at the end of august and then going to school mid-sept in washington, so we have to time the wedding just right. I'm hoping that it won't be blazing early in the morning.

@Sandy - I definitely plan to tell my guests to be comfortable and come in casual summer dresses and slacks.

@Ashleigh - hopefully it cools off by then! I remember visiting savannah and it was the humidity that got me, not the heat!

@Ashleigh - you are having your reception indoors right? I was planning on having both reception and ceremony outside
