Out of town wedding party

Scarlet, on July 10, 2019 at 12:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
Hi guys!

I am originally from CA, but I’m in the military stationed else where. My other half is from PA and pretty much majority of our wedding party is coming from out of state. Due to the business of our wedding venue our rehearsal will be 4 days prior to the wedding. Since everyone will he from out of town. Would you guys suggest planning and itinerary for the wedding party or just letting everyone do their own thing until the wedding day?

I would probably plan something each day, a lunch one day, happy hour, golfing, etc. but definitely wouldn’t plan out each day. They’ll want time to do their own thing also. Plus, you’ll probably be busy with pre-wedding stuff to really be able to dedicate all day every day with them.

I wouldn’t expect everyone to come into town 4 days early for rehearsal. Can you skip rehearsing or do a run through somewhere other than the venue the night before the wedding instead?

Nope. Our wedding party has agreed to fly out the date of of the rehearsal. Our wedding venue already has wedding booked from that Friday-Sunday and we’re getting married Monday afternoon.

8 out of my 9 bridesmaids are out of state, and 5 out of my fiance's 10 groomsmen are out of state. I sent out an itinerary via email for what's happening Friday & Saturday & Sunday (Saturday wedding). Really the main things are rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, and wedding day. Other than that, no plans. But if we go somewhere for lunch on Friday or something like that, we will text everyone and invite them.

Do at least one "touristy" thing to make the trip feel worth it. I travelled cross country 5 days before a friend's wedding and only saw the hotel and her mom's house. It felt like a wasted trip and that we were unappreciated.

That's true. I was thinking like a winery or something because I LOVE wine, but sadly not everyone enjoys wine. I was thinking of taking them to the Santa Monica Pier because it's kind of a trademark in CA. Thank you for input!

I would let them know what you plan to do (including one just fun activity), but otherwise let them choose what they join in on/plan their own itinerary.

Yeah, I just messaged everyone the itinerary I had planned which was only the rehearsal dinner and bachelor/bachelorette day.

The Pier and a winery both sound great. I'm not a big drinker but seeing gorgeous vineyards and learning something new is always fun.
