Out of state wedding and rehearsal dinner

Kara, on February 2, 2017 at 10:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

My son is getting married in VA (we're in FL). How do we handle hosting rehearsal dinner from here without breaking the bank?

I would imagine it's very similar to what you would do in your hometown, except you won't be as familiar with the potential restaurant choices. And you'll want to plan your own hotel stay accordingly. I guess I'm not understanding where the extra expense would come from just because it's in their city and not yours?

Just let it be known that it won't be a welcome dinner for all out of town guests. Let your FDIL know that you are excited to host the dinner and ask her for some guidance on restaurants/venues in the area. I'm sure she would love to help you with logistics or recommendations. Just make sure it's known that it's a bridal party and immediate family only situation if you need to cut costs.

I gave my FFIL three restaurant suggestions all with different food offered and in a variety of price ranges but with separate seating areas so that it would feel private. FH and I have been to all three before so he doesn't have to come from CA to GA if he doesn't want to. All of the restaurants will book over the phone and have great pictures and websites to look at as well

Look for known restaurants with private event space. We're planning the rehearsal dinner out of state, and it's been pretty easy working with the vendor. Ours is at Carmine's in LV for 22 people - includes just bridal party, parents and siblings, and significant others. Good luck!

We planned our rehearsal brunch, just looked for restaurants close to the hotel/venue, looked over their menus, and contacted a few about renting their space, then picked one and made a deposit.

I currently live in Indiana and am planning my wedding/reception in North Dakota. It can be done! i spend a lot of time googling and reading online reviews of locations/caterers/ well everything! Other than your transportation costs to get there, it shouldn't be anymore than if you were hosting where you live *Unless there is just a different cost of living there* Do your research!
