I think this site is a great way to find a photographer if you aren’t familiar with the area. There are also photographer/wedding pages on Facebook that might help too (that’s how I found mine). Good luck!

I had a destination wedding so all talk was done thru email first and a few phone calls or FaceTime with some of the main vendors. I say follow your insisting and look them up on social media, follow them for a while to see their work and make sure you have chemistry with them. Photographer plays a huge role before the wedding, during the wedding and after the wedding so communication and chemistry is key. You have to feel comfortable with them.

Yes but where do I do my engagement photos here or there? Get two different photographers??

We are getting married roughly four hours from where we llive. When I was looking for a photographer, I talked to one of my friends because I loved her photographer and she gave me her contact information. I reached out to her to see where she would travel to. She open to traveling to anywhere. We got our engagement photos done in the state park in New Jersey where we got engaged and our wedding is in Pennsylvania.

Yes but is it way more expensive to travel? Or cheaper to have one do the engagement photos here and then hire one for the wedding😫 I don’t know what to do!

I did the same as PP - used one photographer from the area where my wedding will be and had them travel to us for the engagement photos. Maybe you can meet somewhere in the middle so it’s not such a long trip or big travel fee but from everything I was able to see it will be cheaper to use one photographer and pay the travel fees than hire two separate ones.

Ideally, it is better to have the same photographer do the engagement photos and wedding photos.
Why:
It could be cheaper. Some photographers give you a deal on engagement photos if you book them for a wedding.
You get used to each other and get a little more comfortable.

Yes. They will charge you to travel. Whether you hire one in your area and have them do photos 4 hours away at your wedding. Or hire someone at the beach and have them travel to you for engagement photos.

Depending on your budget, you may want to skip engagement photos. Or go with someone local for engagement photos and someone local to your venue for wedding photos.

I joined a wedding group in both places (where we live and where the wedding was). I also searched on Instagram #(town name)photographer or photography. For my engagement photos we got lucky enough that someone was offering a free shoot in the group as she was in town from London. I found out wedding photographer on the other group. We got really lucky with both.

We also choose to have our wedding in Pennsylvania in between where my family and his family live. Our photographer has had no problem traveling to anywhere. She even often to meet up in person close to our house to go over everything. We got really lucky to have such a great photographer. I would recommend trying to find one photographer because most have packages that include engagement sessions. I would ask them if they would be willing to travel closer to you for your engagement session. You might have to pay them more money though.
