Other rings during wedding

Karen, on April 21, 2011 at 9:24 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

What do you think about wearing rings other than your engagement ring/wedding band during the wedding? I have a ring I wear that is from my grandmother, that she originally bought in Portugal, she bought 3...1 for her, one for my mom, and 1 for my aunt. When my aunt (who was my godmother) died, I inherited her ring. I was thinking of wearing it for my something old, as well as to sort of honor my grandmother as she will be unable to attend the wedding (very advanced dementia), but I'm not sure if it is "frowned upon" to wear non-wedding related rings. Opinions?

As far as I know there is nothing against wearing other rings on your wedding day. I had a cousin offer me a ring as my something borrowed but I turned it down because I felt it would outshine my wedding ring. lol But I agree with Bella, the sentimental value is beautiful. I think you should go for it. Smiley smile

I am personally not wearing any other rings for that one day. BUT if it is a sentimental ring, why not? I would just make sure you wear it on the right hand and keep the wedding hand free for that day.

I will be wearing my mothers ring on my wedding day I never take it off....

Also wondering why your grandmother can not attend with dementia? My grandmother is in stage 2 of alzeheimers and she will attend my wedding... Dementia is a lesser form of alzeheimers disease and my grandma is still lucid most of the time and remembers that I am getting married although she keeps asking my Mom and sister who they are planning a baby shower for LOL...

I think that is a great idea for somemthing old and should be worn on your right hand. I will be wearing my promise ring that my FH on my right hand, not a lot of people have one of those but it was the start of being proposed to in a way,I think so I will and always will wear it on my right hand like my engagement ring is on my left hand.

My grandmother's case is very severe at this point. She hasn't been officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but in my own personal opinion, it seems more like Alzheimer's than dementia. At this point she doesn't recognize anyone, not even my uncle who visits her everyday. She is in a nursing home, and needs the full time care. She very rarely will eat on her own. Honestly they really don't think she is going to be around much longer.

I appreciate all of your opinions! It's a very subtle gold ring, and I do normally wear it on my right hand, so I am leaning more towards keeping it on for the wedding. Now for the something borrowed and something blue! Lol!

Just wear it on your other hand. I've seen plenty of people do that. I was going to wear a ring of my grandmothers, but it turned out to be huge and kind of gaudy looking. My DH wore the engagement ring I got him on his right hand.

I think you should wear it because it means something to you. I have a pearl bracelet that my mom got me for my 16th birthday that she said was specifically for my wedding day. Its off white and has a gold clasp. I told FMIL about it and she said it wasn't going to match and wear it on my ankle. I was SO offended. If it means something to you, wear it! It will be beautiful.

I am wearing the promise ring the FH gave me when we were dating and lived 2000 miles apart from each other. it is a heart shaped diamond (also my birthstone ) and has a few very small diamonds on either side and he had it engraved " I Love you" on side of the stone and "baby girl" on the other side of the stone Smiley smile

I'm an Aggie (Texas A&M University) and we are very proud of our Aggie rings, so FH and I will be wearing our Aggie rings during the ceremony.

I think it is purely preference. If the ring is symbolic of something and you want to wear it - do it!!

I will wear my "other" engagement ring on my right hand. For christmas this past year, I told him that I would like a ring for my right hand.. not a diamond. He got me a diamond ring and afterwards said "I guess we got engaged again"!. It's like a mini replica of my engagement ring and I wear them both always!

I am wearing the peridot ring from that collection Frank has bought me over the last 8 years. Actually, the ring was the first birthstone piece he bought me. Smiley smile Yes, I will wear it on my right hand.

I don't know how well you can see it here.

My fiance gave me a gorgeous Claddagh ring the first year we started dating and I'm planning on wearing it during our wedding. Smiley smile It's been moved over to my right hand since the other ring showed up. Smiley tongue

I am wearing the ring my grandma gave to my mom, as my something borrowed. It was my grandma's wedding ring and I feel like it's a good way to include her since she has passed. It will be on my right hand though.

I wore my mom's aunt's engagement ring (or wedding ring can't remember) on my right hand. It was a sapphire with diamonds. I love that ring. It was my something borrowed and blue.

I have 3 very sentimental "sister" rings, all of which fit on my right hand. All of which do not match my attire or my engagement ring for the day. Shall i wear them?! Or shall i place them elsewhere, if so, where? Getting married in 41 days so opinions greatly appreciated! Ames x
