Has anyone ordered a dress online? If so where's a good website to do so?

99% of the time the dresses don't come out as you had hoped, I do however, know 3 people who have orderedordered bridesmaid dresses off of JJ's House. One of the ladies had a problem and contacted them via Facebook. They gave her like 20% of her money back because she had ordered them in custom sizes. The other 2 had no problems with the dresses, but they still needed minor alterations. As far as wedding dresses goes.... I don't know. I would suggest going to an off the rack bridal salon or resale salon. They have dresses that start at $99 and go up from there. I got mine at a resale bridal salon and I saved about $800 on the retail price of my dress. It's in prefect condition too! All of the dresses I tried on there were in prefect condition. The Brides Against Breast Cancer dresses were a total disaster. Torn up and the prices were way too high for some of the alterations that would've been needed to repair most of the dresses.

While I haven't done it yet, I plan to order mine online after trying it on in a salon. The one I fell in love with is w-a-y out of my price range from a salon ($900). However, I found it online for less than half that. There is a woman who is local to me that does wedding gown alterations out of her home (an actual business). This is the route I plan on taking. I just haven't gotten it yet because I don't want it in the size I am currently. If you have a specific dress in mind, just search for the designer and style number and see what comes up. Then scrutinize those reviews!

Hi Michelle! After trying on in a salon, I think it would be impossible (for me) to order online and be confident I would love it and it would fit me properly. There were dresses that I found online, loved them online, tried on in the store, and hated. So that made it hard.

Although, a friend of mine on WW ordered her dress on Amazon, and it looks beautiful on her, and like a million bucks. I see it both ways - Just make sure if you order, order from a reputable company. Check their reviews, make sure it isn't some knock-off company that will send you a dress that is NOTHING like what they represent them to be on the website. Good luck!

Hi @michelle! Welcome to WeddingWire! What dress are you thinking about ordering??

As the other ladies have noted, I would be cautious with this. Definitely make sure that you've tried the actual dress on in a shop (for sizing purposes) and that you're ordering from a reputable company. Then I would also make sure you have plenty of time between when the dress arrives and your wedding day so that if anything goes wrong / if extra alterations are needed, you have the time to take care of it and aren't left floundering.

I did this with a bridesmaids dress recently - but again, tried a similar style by the same designer on at a salon so that I knew the way it looked and how the sizing worked.

I was planning on buying my dress on etsy but I found my dream in a bridal boutique on sale because it was discontinued. But I read her reviews on etsy 5 times looked up her name on google and facebook. FOund her dresses on many different blogs.

Depends on what you mean by ordering online. Used? Etsy? Ebay?

1.Like everyone said make sure you try on the dress at a store (or similar dress)

    2. Review Review Review google the site with the word review after it do not trust someones reviews if its on a website controlled by them (ebay and etsy do not allow sellers to edit or delete reviews). If you are buying a dress not from the maker make sure you look at pictures out side of the website if a website is using pictures from a magizine or someone elses website DO NOT TRUST THEM, why would they do that if there product is trust worthy?

3.Also Make sure you order it way in advance (I see that you have a couple years).

I would know how things fit you before going online. Different designers fit differently, just like clothing brands. I myself purchased my Enzoani dress online but that was after trying on countless dresses in person (and not finding "the one") and through that learned what my size was in Enzoani's dresses before even thinking about purchasing online.

There is MUCH to be said about the customer service and support you get from a salon so if price is an issue I encourage you to look at consignment stores, you can get a steal AND still have the piece of mind that knowing that your dress will look great on you.

Most bridals stores have a no return policy no matter how you buy from them so keep this in mind.

FYI, the bridal salon I purchased my dress from, matched the price I found online. SO ASK!!

ETA: My mom had the email from the website with the name and style # along with the price listed, and with that they honored that price.

I would go to a salon, then search a reputable site if the salon is out of reach. I was initially looking at purchasing my dress online but after going to a boutique, I realized that the prices were kind of similar for what I wanted. I know a friend who ordered one online and it was gorgeous. Just be cautious and okay with losing the money you spent if it isn't what you expected. Black Friday is coming up and David's Bridal has some pretty awesome winter sales, don't count a boutique out just yet.

I ordered my dress online at lightinthebox.com one of those "china dress websites" and I was super happy with it. Fantastic beading, no loose stitches. No odd hems, everything was even and clean. I did the custom measurement and it was perfect. Mine came in about 6 weeks from when I ordered it. They have a huge selection. Quality is great.
