Opinions on a December Wedding

Kelsey Brielle, on December 24, 2018 at 3:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

As I posted previously FH and I are having to push the wedding back a year. We are going to have to pay a fee but the fee goes to the balance so we are okay with that, The greatest benefit about this is that I always wanted a winter wedding (our date right now is in May). I fell in love with my FH during the winter and he was there for me through tough times. Winter means a lot to us. I was looking at 12/12/21. I didn't want to to anything TOO close to Christmas but I wanted to get people's opinions on having a December wedding. Pros and Cons. TIA

I love winter weddings! Just be mindful that some people may not be able to attend because it being close to the holidays but you know your crowd better than we do.

It’s it’s mostly local people I think it will be fine but I would still expect a higher decline rate than normal. If you have a lot of out of town guests that could make it difficult because it is one of the most expensive times of year to fly.

I think I am going to discuss it first with family. Everyone is local, Jersey for my family and Philly for FH. The ones that aren't are in Maryland and they NEVER miss a event. Thank you ladies.

Winter weddings, especially in Jersey, are tricky. You'll never know what the weather is going to be like. Potential bad weather might make guests not want to travel. Even more so if they have small children or elderly.

I love December weddings, especially because I just had one! Haha. I think that date is great because it’s not too close to Christmas but everyone is still in the Christmas spirit. Send out save the dates with plenty of time and the people who want to be there will be there!

That was on our mind too since the weather is so unpredictable. We may still run it by family to see how they feel. Everyone is local but I don’t want to have a higher decline rate if I can avoid it.

Yes! That is why we picked that date. It’s not too too close.

That is EXACTLY what my mom said. She said those that want to be there will come.

Yep! My mom always says “people do what they want to do” and I found with weddings and guests that is 100% true.

Enjoy planning a Christmas wedding! I just posted my BAM and I keep obsessing over my photos!

I think Winter weddings are so pretty. I think the further from Christmas (but still December) the better! As long as you give good notice people should show up!

We are having a wedding right after Christmas (1/4/19) and we’ve had no issues with people not coming. I think as long as there’s a week on either side people don’t seem to have much of an issue! Our winter wedding saved us SO much money, we got our first pick of vendors and I can’t wait!

I could not recommend winter more highly, we can’t wait! It’s been easy to plan and so much cheaper. Go for what you want.

12/12/21 sounds like an awesome date! If most of your guests are less than 1 hour drive to your venue, you’ll probably be fine! I’d love to attend a winter wedding. ❄️

Ooh, a winter wedding sounds so nice and cozy right now, Kelsey Brielle!! How is planning going, or are you taking a minute to breathe now that you've pushed back the date?
